Just buy it!I haven't found anything to fault yet. Great graphics, some of the best sounds I have ever heard in the train sim, and 30+ activities, and if vol1 is typical, more to come. Less animated objects, but that I don't mind. The cab graphics are excellent on all the engines.Funnily enough, it has a lot of AI trains running in the direction of the user train, which a lot of my recent routes have had. Makes for a more realistic activity.Only minus: some of the activities are far too hard time wise, but that is easily to change with activity changer. The printable activity, train operation etc., notes are also a great bonus. Plus the authors speak to you!David

RE: German railroads vol2

Sorry, not well worded. I have had a lot of assistance from Ernst, both with volume1 and 2. The replies are very prompt, and he goes to a lot of trouble to help with any problems.David

Ach so, I thought just for a moment you had a different version with added features! Yes, they are very prompt indeed. You might have noticed I like German Railroads a lot and that's one reason why!

Best regards,
Richard.

RE: German railroads vol2

So do I! Great activities and lots of them. Both routes are excellent, though I prefer GR2, as I like double track. The sounds on GR2 are the best yet. Its another heavy user of frame rates tho, looks like an upgrade is needed for me. Having installed this route, NEC4, and Mideastuk, in the last couple of weeks, the sim has reached a new level. I look forward to Protrain3, which I haven't got yet.David

RE: German railroads vol2

DTA, quick question. What's your machine specs and what are the frame rates you get on GR2?Because I have not yet gotten GR2 - but I did get PT3 - and with a 1.2ghz AMD Athlon, 256mb SDRAM, 32 MB GeForce 2 - The framerates on PT3 are terrible - single digits in many places, for several kilometres it's single frame rate figures in Munich yard! So look out - PT3 is a real resource-hungry add-on!-----------------------------FORMERLY 'THE KOZIOL' BEFORE THE STUPID DELETED USERNAMES DISASTERAL QAEDA IS SUSPECTED

2 gig athlon. 512ram, 64mb graphics, I get 40-50 in most places except the larger stations with a lot of AI, when it can dip down to single figures. I have since done a defrag, which has improved things a bit. I have all details on except for shadows.David

LAST EDITED ON May-04-03 AT 06:39 AM (EDT)

David,If you weren't aware of, German Railroads made a "patch" which reduces some of the textures thus lesser strain on one's computer system. Under downloads look for "Reduzierte Texturen" You'll also find a new engine for free! (with an activity)I've got an AMD Duron 1300, 640 Mb Ram, 64 Mb Geforce2 and a 7200Rpm HDD. No problems with running GR1 or 2 (fps 25-30). Near stations, yes indeed single digits but I can live with that (you've gotta drive slow anyway ).

Best regards,
Richard.

RE: German railroads vol2

Since defragging I am over single digits everywhere, and get between 15-50 fps. Can't get lazy flakes from Sky conductor 2 to work, but I can live with that.I have found a lot of activities that I can improve on, so that is my work for next week.David
