I'm running the original Cajon Pass, with the 1.06 update and I cannot get by this activity. I have approached it from several different angles each with the same outcome. No matter how fast or how slow I go between Barstow and the bottom of the grade, I always get a flashing yellow light south of Verdemont, a solid yellow south of the flashing, and a solid red just north of The San Bernadino "A" yard. There appears to be a train headed by default dash 9's sitting in the "A" yard, but I cannot tell if it's causing the red. My track monitor shows a light blue area in the track on either side of the red indication. I have gotten to this point as quickly as 11:05, and as late as 12:20, and I still get the same standoff. Waiting at the light does not yeld any result, I cannot tab through, and approaching does not effect it. Has anyone been able to get by this evil light?

Duncan

RE: Cajon Pass: Barstow Double Stack problem

Duncan,
I have made it but I may have done it the hard way. I went into the activities editor and modified the path of the three AI trains that will pass you on the way down. They originall started essentially at the same point as the end for the player train. I moved the AI starting point to the west spur off the A yard where the two AI trains for around 8:00 AM start. I took them throuugh the A yard one siding to the north of the player path. I adjusted the starting times for the AI trains so that they would leave the yard at the same time as they would from the original start. This eliminated any path interaction.
There also has been a thread that said you could zapp out the first two AI trains that start early and just end up on a north siding in the yard. I have not tried this one.
Good luck. Regards, Tom

I like Cajon Pass for its great scenery. Nevertheless, authors of PAYWARE should not leave flawed activities for users to get hung up on. The RIGHT thing for them to do is patch the flaws and make the patches available for download by the purchasers of the software.Anthony

>took awhile Hi, Brad:Be advised of the following: As per your instructions, I downloaded your patch, unzipped it to the Train Simulator folder, and said "yes" to replacing old files, then restarted the computer. Started up MSTS, Cajon Pass, and the activity: "BNSF Barstow to Mojave." Same old problem. Train had to stop for a red just west of the "Hinkley MOW Track" (Lat. 34.93816 Lon. -117.21574) After a few minutes, the AI freight approached, then stopped and stared at me for many minutes in a face off, declining to proceed through the switch onto the open track. What thinkest thou?Anthony

Cajon Pass: Barstow Double Stack problem – image 5

Hi Anthony,I don't know, that particular activity worked fine for me. However, I'm beginning to think that the AI in this sim is just too unforgivable when it comes to having lots of AI traffic set near the end of a long activity. If you arrive to a certain point too soon or too late, you get these standoffs. What's strange though, is that it is not consistent, and it varies from one machine to another. For example, I found out last weekend while beta testing the activities for the BN over Marias Pass add-on, this was on the Kalispell local activity, on my machine, the traffic thats suppose to be coming toward you from Whitefish at the very start, was actually coming out off the Kalispell branch on my computer, but it was not doing that on two other team members computers. So I opened the activity in the AE, and I noticed that the first AI traffic's lead unit was over the junction switch when the activity started, and apparently was causing the traffic path to switch over to the other line which was very strange. I corrected the problem for my computer by having that particular traffic consist start a couple seconds earlier. But why didn't the other guys have that problem, and why was it just on my machine?? At this point, maybe we should just delete some of these activities that some people are having problems with from our product. Afterall, there is still plenty of other activities to run, and why chance screwing up the the other activities trying to fix one so that it works on one particular persons computer. Its all very perplexing, I can say we are being more careful on how we handle the AI traffic in our future products. Basically, we are approaching these problems in two ways, the first, is just doing away with AI traffic late in an activity, and opting for just a static consist at a siding or something. The other is to avoid activities that are over 1.5 hrs, and breaking long activities into two parts. The nice thing about the latter, is that you can change weather conditions, and actually reduce framerates at the same time.Best regards,

RE: Cajon Pass: Barstow Double Stack problem

Dear Brad,
I followed most of what you explained. One question though, how or in what way can one Act. interfere with another Act. I though each was a stand alone sub-progam sharing only things like paths or consists. Buck & Lap Dog Susie Q

Roderiz, try the activity first, as not everyone has had a problem with it. If you do, then yes, try the patch.Buck, you forgot the traffic files, and thats where the rub is, some of these activities use the same traffic files, and some of the traffic files use the same services, and some of the services use the same paths, and so on Best regards,

RE: Cajon Pass: Barstow Double Stack problem

I think I get it. (took 2 Bourbon & cokes)The traffic is static.
What runs well in one interferes in another. It would be a lot of work and space ,but why not make several traffic consists then taylor
each one to each act. Say you have 6 new acts.,you want 8 traffic trains in each. Thus 48 different consists,48 different services,48 different paths. Each one custom built just for that particular act.
as well as to work in unison with its other 7 counter parts. That
way there would be no spill over from one act. to another. Stock
could be the same but in several different combinations.I'm really asking more of a question than giving an explanation. Everybody loves
a lot of traffic on the line, and it seems that there has to be a way to make it all come to a jell. The only real problem I see is the painstaking job of switching & timetable concerns. your thoughts and
views would be greatly appreciated. I am seriously considering trying to become a good act. builder. I am retired and have a abundance of time and patiences to put into a few projects.
