RE: MSTS 2 Wishlist!

A base program that does not lock up on such small and insignificant errors. If a engine or wagon file is bad identify the problem automatically, and if severe insert a default unit.(set by user in advance)If path is broken or other similar let user run at own risk.
(To train safety not computer)Take out that gong error sound. All AIs have lights on and they use there horns at the proper places.
Put in a decent clock, (For decades the world ran on railroad time.)

RE: MSTS 2 Wishlist!

>ROUTES AND ROLLING STOCK THAT DOES NOT SUCK!!!!!!!! Actually, I don't really think this is a big deal. After all, there are currently at least a hundred routes and several thousand of trains available for MSTS 1, so I doubt whether half a dozen routes and a couple dozen pieces of stock from Microsoft will really make much difference one way or the other. The MSTS community, both freeware and payware, has shown it can provide content of the highest quality, and I have faith that it will continue to do so.This is why I'd much prefer that Microsoft/Kuju concentrate on the boring and difficult bits. Off the top of my head: improving the rendering speed, get some kind of caching implemented so the game doesn't stop every time the disc is accessed, improving the AI driver (especially for steam engines), tightening the signalling system and reducing deadlock. Unlike content, these are the parts of the sim that are difficult or impossible for the rest of us to improve upon or fix, but they are critical to the enjoyment of the game for serious fans, i.e. the community here.Rob.

RE: MSTS 2 Wishlist!

In the sim itself.Multiple image maps of Cars/Loco's (New/Weathered - Dry/Wet/Snowy) The cars and loco's don't sit in a garage you know. The more use a car or loco gets the more weathered it becomes. You could set the age of the cars paintjob in the eng/wag file. I know this may seem like a problem for the painters but with a little work the overlay of these items could be part of the program and generated internaly. Leaving the painters to paint it new and the MSTS to take care of the rest.Cab interior lighting as you like to be shown both in and out. Increase the selection of ditch lights/strobes to include flashing sequentialy or on/off.Cab Views to include back so shunting can be done with your head in the window. Working mirrors (as on some new units) would also be a nice touch.Animals cars and pedestrians respond to your horn..!
Road vehicle normals Lights on while moving off when parked. Not so much honking it may seem normal in New York but in the hills of marias well it's just goofy.Editors - This goes without saying - These must be rewritten to make there use possible for normal people. The work done here shows the extraordinary people and what they can accomplish with even the porest of software imagine what can be done if it were easy to use.I would also like to see an activity editor that is more intuitive. Perhaps even build in a MR type of operating software. Loads and empties being sent where needed and you jump into that mix. Engineers don't get to define there workload (far from it as a matter of fact). There should also be a train info pack generated for each activity waybills, consists and trainorders for view or printing. Interuptions should not be included in this info but built into the sim as in real life not everything goes as planned. Diversions and delays along with equipment failures. To that end working EOTD's/Conductors/Hot Box/Dragging equipment detectors and maybe even radios. If an inspection is required at night give your walk down the tracks some light -- Working lanterns.Just a few things but as has been stated so many times before you should fix what is already there first. Before moving on to new stuff. If MSTSv2 is not backward compatable make a working converter and test it extensively.. There is plenty of things to test it with so all that is needed is time. This program has so much potential that is for the most part unrealised it can only get better. If the work being done to that end is any indication there is a great desire for this program as it is already with all it's problems. Think of what it could become if the problems were fixed. If ever the next version comes out include an SDK that's meaningfull. This is why I think that FS has progressed so much and the train sim lags behind. There are so many experts that are willing to give there time to building this into the dream sim if only they had the proper tools to do that with.Ronson

RE: MSTS 2 Wishlist!

Generic activities. (A'la Jim Ward on PO&N)I think Jim's open ended activity concept is genius! For those who haven't checked it out, do it now! Seriously, he has made activities that are nothing more than AI traffic and loose consists galore. No requirements or workorders. You start out in a certain area with your engines. From there you can do anything you want! AI trains are running on the main line so you have traffic concerns, but you can go anywhere or do anything you want. It's similar to explore mode, but instead of the bland no signals, same consist exploration, you have can build whatever train you like from stock laying about, and you get to watch for AI trains. Genius! Basically, it's a "roll your own" activity concept. It can be as easy, or as difficult as you decide.Do some switching in the yard, hop on the mainline pulling a load, hop off at the next yard, drop a and classify a few cars, pick more up and possibly a helper, etc... I can spend hours doing "nothing" using this system!I like this concept much better than the majority of the default activities. Isn't it always the way that somebody else's idea of a good time is radically different than yours? With the open ended concept, you decide what you want to do.Thanks Sniper! (Why aren't more people doing this?)-Jeff

RE: MSTS 2 Wishlist!

Well you will not get it! All your demands are pie in the sky as far as Kuju are concerned. Kuju needs money fast, so they hope to sell MSTS2 to anyone who is willing to pay £50 (or equivalent), for the product as soon as it comes out.Personally, I will not buy it until it sells as seconds, because the original was great in concept, but awful with design. The activities in particular were very poorly made, and all the routes were very basic, as can be seen by the FREE updates. As for the errors with the Tokio route distances, one can only suggest apathy. With their current progammers, I don't expect anything better. If you employ monkeys, you will only get peanuts.David
