Several things happening at Team GM&O the past several days!!!First, the Bloomington Car Shops personnel have recently acquired four former Delaware & Hudson baggage cars to supplement head-end needs on the Chicago-St. Louis trains. These cars have been re-lettered to Gulf Mobile and Ohio however they retain their original D&H colors.Second, the Bloomington Engine Shops have received several new Alco RS-3's which are now ready for assignment to local and yard service on all divisions. Finally, the Engineering Department is pleased to report the completion of track between Fulton and Mexico, Missouri. Test train service will soon begin on the South Branch to be followed soon by the opening of rail service between Fulton and Mexico with stops at Ortiz, Auxvasse, McCredie, and Callaway.Having completed the current trackwork project, the Engineering Department has been tasked with laying track eastward from Mexico to Louisiana, Missouri, and from Roodhouse, Illinois, westward to Louisiana, Missouri. Major bridges will need to be built at Pearl (Illinois River) and at Louisiana (Mississippi River) before service can begin. We also have received communication from the Burlington Route Engineering Department informing us that construction is underway along the west bank of the Mississippi River between Hannibal, Louisiana, and Monroe, Missouri. Their line will cross the GM&O just west of the planned swing-span bridge over the Mississippi River.JBD
