I've been wondering whether it's possible to force MSTS to display a resolution of 1600 x 1200, even though the display settings in Options don't go this high.In FS2002 you can do this by editing the cfg file, so I'm thinking that if I could find a similar file in MSTS that lists the screen resolution I'd try changing it and see what happens.I haven't had any luck yet in finding such a file. Anybody have any ideas about this? -JF-
The resolutions available to TS are governed by your video card/monitor relationship. I run an MSI GF4 4400Ti with an Iiyama Vision Master 400, and the resolution you seek is one of my choosable options in both 16 and 32 bit.mervyn@madasafish.com
Thanks for your reply.I'm running a 4200Ti and a Viewsonic G90f, so that must fall short of the MSTS parameters for 1600 x 1200.Still, I'd like to try forcing it to see what happens. I get great performance at 1280 x 1024 x 32 -- my system's not straining at all at those settings. When I boosted my setting in FS2002, the performance actually improved along with the visuals. -JF-
Make sure you have the correct monitor definition file loaded in your OS. If you run the "Default Monitor" selection that windows puts in by default this can cause you to be missing resolutions. Change your monitor driver so that it says what monitor you really have. I have an nVidia GeForce 3 Ti500 hooked to a 21" IBM 9521 monitor, and I have both 1600x1200x16 and 1600x1200x32 resolutions available and working in MSTS.Nick
Great tip, Nick. Thanks.I downloaded a newer driver (and definition) for my monitor and it did improve a few things -- max refresh rate, for one.Unfortunately it didn't do anything for my max resolution in MSTS. That's still listed as 1280 x 1024 x 32. I'm tempted to reinstall Train Simulator to see if it changes now that there's a new definition, but I hate to do that just for this. I'd sooner wait until a more major problem crops up.I'd still like to find a way to force the higher resolution if this is listed in any accessible MSTS file similar to the way it is in FS2002. -JF-
