So it's put into the sound folder now what sound will it reference.Don't you have to have a wave or some type of sound file to have the sound? The readme states that you put this file into the sound folder of of the trainset folder for that car not the MSTS sound folder. If you open the sms file you'll see that it calls for a particular sound wave that's not there.Maybe I'm missing something here.
Actually, the readme section on the sound file reads in full as follows:(YOU MUST COPY THE FILE "DTTX.SMS" TO THE ~ \Train Simulator\Sound ~ FOLDER)... and not the "trainset folder for that car," whatever that means. All I can say is that when I installed and set up CR_Dblstk and tried to run it without reading the README, I got an error ms. for each and every well car in the consist; so I copied the DTTX.SMS file "TO THE - \Train Simulator\Sound - FOLDER) and the error mss. ceased. Don't know much about science books, don't know much about the French I took, but I do know the cars are working now. I see your point, though: the .sms file should point to a "real" sound file somewhere. I hope someone who knows something about sound will answer it.
Sounds like an odd aliasing job there. If just putting the .sms file in the \Train Simulator\Sound folder works without adding any additional .wav files, It seems obvious that the .wavs the .sms is pointing to are in the main Sound folder. But why the .wag points to the .sms file in the Sound folder is anybodies guess. Perhaps the author didn't know how the aliasing file structure hierarchy works?I haven't downloaded it yet so I can't look at the files to see what is going on so this is just a guess, but I'd bet you could do a more conventional aliasing job to accomplish the same thing and keep the .sms file in the same folder as the car. Putting the .sms in the Sound folder is sloppy. It makes the most sense to keep all files related to a loco/car in it's own particular folder. Imagine what a mess our trainset folders would be in if everybody did this. -Edit- Other than aliasing files for multiple cars/locos to common.cab or common.snd folder, which saves a great deal of disk space.-Jeff

Imagine what a mess our trainset >folders would be in if everybody did this. If you'll check your rolling stock, all of the .wag files refer to an .sms file that is in the Train Simulator\SOUND folder, so that IS the standard. That is so that many cars can use one sound file, similar to what happens in the Common.Snd Folder. Saves drive space that way.
JOhn Oldrailfan Railfan means anything on rails! Trains Trolleys Rollercoasters - you name it.
Whoa! -sticks foot in mouth-You're right! I wasn't aware of that. (shows how often I poke my head in that folder) My apologies to the author, and everyone else for that drivel above.Apparently all the rolling stock I've installed manually points to the .sms's for the default cars, because I haven't put a single .sms in this folder.-Edit- This brings up a question though. If all these other cars reference default .sms's, what is the purpose of packaging an .sms file with this car? Different loop points or something?-Jeff
