To paraphrase Tigger, "Cluttering up threads is what Snipers do best!", so here's another one we can screw up. The packaging problems have been well covered, on the way to the solution. Now for my oddball, I got a new rig with a Radeon 9700, and I thought this might be an ATI issue. So I downloaded and installed the latest ATI driver, and I still got it, so the question is, does anyone with a different vidcard get this? Anyone with a Radeon NOT getting it?Two items, from certain angles the telephone wires are bluish green (color of blank.ace), and I'm getting UFOs flying thru the sky in the exterior views, starting point Ridgely, south to the big city (Springfield I assume), ending after passing under the rail bridge.GM&O bugs part MXCLDXIV – image 1
The acid flashbacks start about lat 39.829 long -89.635.GM&O bugs part MXCLDXIV – image 2
Going thru this city it gets really intense.GM&O bugs part MXCLDXIV – image 3
Last UFO flying past is this fence and tree, once the train passes under the bridge up ahead it don't do it anymore.I've tried this with a few different detail settings, including maxed out, shadows off, visibility slider down halfway, it always does it, and always the same objects flying along in the same direction the train is going, about twice the speed of the train.
I haven't done extensive testing on other routes (I've only had this thing a week), but I never noticed it on the PO&N.

RE: GM&O bugs part MXCLDXIV

Hi
With a very different video card than yours, I had similiar things happening in tunnels on an early version of Garber's Ohio route.
Inside every tunnel everything was white, with scenery from somewhere showing up, except it was upside down. For grins and giggles,
changed the 3 Track Textures files to the ones from Europe 1.
My problems went away.
Why?
I have no idea. Sure did nothing else.
What was the connection? Don't know, but it might be worth a shot.

RE: GM&O bugs part MXCLDXIV

This is usually a sign of ViewDBSphere problems in the world file. One possibility is that it is an artifact of the overloading technique used to build this route. To bypass RE limitations, the builder 'cut-and-pasted' objects into the world files. This results in the ViewDBSphere entries in the world file not being properly updated. Another possibility is an incorrect ViewDBSphere entry in a shape file. Sometimes a builder might manipulate a shape file outside of the modelling program, to make some small adjustment in shape for example, and if they do not properly correct the ViewDBSphere entry in the shape file to match, then that incorrect entry migrates over to the world file and can cause the result that you have seen. This is a fabulous route - a definite work of art - and hopefully this small bugs can be sorted out.

RE: GM&O bugs part MXCLDXIV

OK, you got us! The TRUTH comes out....We're actually building a multiple-deck layout! LOLWe WILL find out why this is happening, however I need to point out that the Iles Tower YOU show in your photos is NOT the Iles Tower that shows up on MY screen. (using GeForce4 cards here) My tower is pale green in color....I DID, however see the flying building once when I was trying to run the route with several other applications running. You MAY have a memory issue there but I can't reliably say that this IS/Is NOT the situation.I'll ask Paul to look over that area since it is his original work in/around Springfield.JBD

RE: GM&O bugs part MXCLDXIV

Myquestion is...how many others are having this trouble? If many are..then I can agree with Wayne's thoughts.I have never had this problem, nor did Kelley Ellison, my original beta testor.I need to hear first if anyone else has this problem..and need to see the screens so I may verify the locations of each problem...but only if there are more than just Jim's trouble. (not that I don't want to resolve your trouble Jim..I want to know if this is more local or something else...P.

I had this happening when I uncompressed the world files with RouteRiter or manually. I had flying buildings and other objects, and one time the CNJ terminal was under a green-ish water kinda thing!

RE: GM&O bugs part MXCLDXIV

Hmmm. Well, I deleted blank.ace, then made a copy of telpole.ace and renamed it to blank.ace, and now the telephone wires are properly colored from all angles. Thanks to Shawn I got the zip burned onto a CD (still don't have my LAN working yet) and tried it out on two other computers at assorted resolutions.P4 2.66ghz, 1024mb RAM, ATI Radeon 9700, WinXP home, 18-25fps, UFOs flying around.AMD XP-1600, 768mb RAM, Nvidia GEFORCE 4 Ti-4400, Win98SE, 10-20fps, no UFOs.AMD Athlon 800, 384mb RAM, Nvidia GEFORCE 2 GTS/PRO, Win98SE, 3-10fps, no UFOs.All three were installed from the same 135mb zipfile that I made after processing the route with Route Riter, so it isn't that (sorry, Teemu!).I ran PO&N6 for several hours on the Radeon, and it's not doing it there. I also ran Brooksy's New Zealand route (Taeri Independent Timber Co., or something?), and it doesn't do it there either.Probably something specific to the route, in that one area, most likely a custom object with a wierd DB sphere like wacampbell said. OTOH, I suspect (since it does NOT do it on the two different Nvidia cards) that it's also an ATI issue. All we need is for someone else with a Radeon 9700 to confirm or deny.

RE: GM&O bugs part MXCLDXIV

Hi Sniper,This was a common problem on some routes where the author had first compressed the .W files, then uncompressed them again for some reason (e.g. to re-edit them ).Ffeditc_unicode.exe incorrectly uncompresses .W files and breaks the nesting of the ViewDbSphere entries, this only seems to give errors in .W files which are over 512k in size (e.g. heavily populated city scapes etc.)I removed the ability to uncompress all the .W files in a route in Route-Riter because of this problem. RR now comes with a utility which Martyn Griffin wrote for me which will correctly uncompress a .W file, however this is very slow and not practical for whole routes.

No files were compressed at any time in the route work or the release prep process....JBD

RE: GM&O bugs part MXCLDXIV

Check the AA and AF settings. I don't remember which one it was but when I was messing with my ATI 9700 I had this happen to me. I reset it to the defaults and havn't had time to mess with it more.--

RE: ROUTE RITER DESTROYED THE GM&O!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Egad, Watson, when we saw those upside-down trees, we should have guessed that crazy Australian was involved!"Hee-hee, well, maybe, Mike. I doubt anyone else hacked it with two different versions of Route Riter, but that's not the whole answer.
Like Jim said, the world files were not compressed, I did compress them in the one I was testing. Before I started hacking at it, I copied the whole 1.15gig monstrosity to one of my backup folders, so after reading Mike's suggestion I deleted the installed folder, and copied the original back in. Same effect, except there weren't as many UFOs flying around, and no upside-down trees. Still with the buildings and fences flying across the yard in the big city tho.I don't think memory is the issue either Jim, it does not do it on the XP1600 with 768mb RAM or the Athlon 800 with 384mb RAM, it is doing it on the P4 2.66 with 1024mb RAM.My desktop shortcut on both the P4 with the Radeon 9700 and the XP-1600 with the Ti-4400 is the same:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\train.exe" -anisotropicI got the display thingie on the Radeon set to "let the application decide", which is the default, since the -anisotropic switch forces trainsim into anisotropic filtering anyway. So I tried running it with the regular launcher instead, no anisotropic (I haven't been using FSAA anyway, not much quality improvement, too much performance drop), and nothing changes, the same thing happens (and the track is too ugly to contemplate! ).Matt, if you have the GM&O beta, can you run from Ridgely south into whatever that big city is (Springfield, I think), switching to the #2 external view and see if you get the same?

RE: ROUTE RITER DESTROYED THE GM&O!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay running from Ridely to Springfeild I get a couple flying brick walls but not flying trees. It only last a few moments. Have the current ATI drivers 3.2 installed and set with default setting. Thinking it might be a buffer issue in the memory or something. I have gotten this flying trees before in MP 3.1 with my GF4 4400 card installed but it has not reoccuered in MP3.1 since I installed the ATI9700.On an unrealed topic I was playing... testing out a pre-production board with Intel's new 800 PSP chipset today with a 3GHz CPU. Just for fun I loaded MSTS on with GM&O. We ended up with rates of about 13-15 FPS on average in the built up areas. 7 FPS was the lowest it went and that was around the crossing just outside Springfeild. The Intel techs thought MSTS looked sort of interesting as a toy... tool to stess out hardware.--
