Our group had its best trip yet with a six hour ride on the Southwest Georgia Excursion Train (www.SamShortline.com). Ed "Hawk" Hawkins, John "atsfdude" Tackett, and I drove down together to Cordele, Georgia and Jordan "jlucero4 drove up from Tallahassee, Florida. Lee "kinnamon" Kinnamon was the conductor on our train. Here are some photos:The GP-9 HOG (Heart of Georgia)

Man, I'm gonna have to do that trip sometime. Sorry I missed the fellowship! I had a 109 load coal train from Cleveland ,TN to Cedartown, GA today so it wasn't a complete loss and hey, That coal keeps your computers and MSTS running away! Hmmmmm, Smokey Mountain Railroad huh?? Gotta get a steam day. I will be sure to get off for that one, just need notice. Cheers, and happy rails, Rob

RE: Photos of today's Atlanta Group outing

Here's another group shot, taken by the same shaky photographer.Photos of today's Atlanta Group outing – image 11You really can't blame him to much though, some sections of track could use a little TLC. Meeting Lee was a real pleasure. Boy, he's got some stories.
We also got to meet Jordyn (or is it Jordan). He drove up from Tallahassee to join us on this adventure. Think you can make up to No. Carolina? As Bill said, it was the best train ride we've had so far. All the folks were just friendly as could be. I think Bill might have found a new Sea View sucker-I mean-fan. We missed the company of of all the other group fellers. Sure wish they could have made it, but other obligations kept them from joining us.I'll post a couple more shots, as soon as this 26,4 connection gets fired up.Great Time!!!!!!!!!! Beautiful ride.HawkThe television's going, and the wash still on the line.
I hear the whistle blowin'-the train is right on time.
I know I ought'a catch her-she's taken my last dime.

Great Smokey Mountains! Your looking at the right person to talk to since I live in NC and the RR is located here. Right now there operating engine is in the backshop and not expected to be out til June or July. But in September the Shay #1925 is coming up from the NCTM to the GSMR for a special week end. That will be the closet the shay has gotten to her old tracks since her restoration in 1999.Adam

Enjoyed the trip, guys. Thanks for posting the pics. I'm afraid North Carolina is a little out of my range, Hawk, although I'd love to go. Jordan

Had a great time. Looking forward to the road trip to the GSMRR in NC. Hopefully we can meet more simmers as well. Lee and Hawk, I have the terrain demmed, but Cordelle sits right above a UTM boundary so I have to be careful with this one. Also started doing markers as well. RE: Photos of today's Atlanta Group outing

Super quick work! If you need any pics, video, etts, etc., just say the word. I'd like to extend an invitation to all msts folks to ride our line. May 3rd is going to be an especially big day for the SAM, as the Central of Georgia Railway Historical Society and the ACL/SAL Historical Society are holding a joint meeting in Albany over that weekend. They will ride our train on Saturday and Georgia Southwestern's line from Smithville, GA to Eufaula, AL on Sunday. BTW, the GSWR has two F9s in a modified Central of Georgia livery. They run p-trains only for charters and certain local festivals.A number of big names in the railroad historian/photographer world are supposed to be onboard our train May 3rd, including David Salter and Jim Wrinn.Speaking of big names, last Saturday, one of the great men of steam, Bill Purdie, rode our train. Mr. Purdie spent a good portion of his career as Master Mechanic of Steam with the Southern Railway's steam program. He is a wonderful man and a railroading legend.I must say that last weekend was my favorite trip thus far, msts friends and Bill Purdie all on the same train! It’s a good thing I had a competent trainman working with me, as I was a bit distracted to say the least. Please come ride with us when you can.LeeLee Kinnamon, vice chairman
