I was wondering what is the process for deleting routes? I thought about just deleting the folder for it but I did not know what effect it would have on the other components of MSTS. All help is appreciated. Thanks.

RE: Deleting Routes

Depends on the route. You can delete KHP for instance, but still keep the rollingstock, other routes you will get error messages because of consist and activity issues. Most free routes come with no rolling stock, so you can easily delete those, leaving you with the activity folders which can be deleted provided you know which route they belong too.Chris Bogley

RE: Deleting Routes

I am trying to delete some of the defalt routes that came with MSTS because I never use them. I think I will keep the US ones and maybe the flying scottsman but the rest have to go. Should I delete them or it is better not to?

RE: Deleting Routes

You can download Train Store from the library. It will make MSTS think the route is deleted, but you can bring it back at any time.-Jeff

RE: Deleting Routes

Hi Brian,>> I am trying to delete some of the defalt routes that came with MSTS because I never use them. I think I will keep the US ones and maybe the flying scottsman but the rest have to go. Should I delete them or it is better not to? Personally NO.........
Well let me put it to you this way Brian.
Are you going to install other routes in the future.
If so, then leave the default MSTS routes well alone, you will need them.
If not, then just delete that particular route. BUT, for the life of me, WHY? delete the default routes, as if later you change your mind, you will need another re-install.
If you really want to delete them, then shift them to a safe temporary folder first, well let's just say for "Just in case"This next bit below I have only mentioned here, as you sound a bit like me when MSTS was released. I only liked one route, that was Marias Pass, but it had faults galore, and I'm thankfull now for the now upgraded MP3.1.Now I personally only use "cut down versions of MSTS" each with its own separate Route (Okay I know about "Train Store" and what did does, and it sure is great for those who find it okay for THEM, in fact its excellent if you have many routes, on the one copy of MSTS.
One of many advantages I find using the "separate routes in their own cut down MSTS system" is I only put into that particular Route, activities, rollingstock etc, nothing else so that route is specific. I have (7) separate routes all operational in their own separate cut down MSTS. Works like a breeze. Been doing this since last November 2002.Two weeks ago I got finally jack of a couple of routes, so decided to get rid of them. It was easy.
First, because MSTS and the route was small enough to burn onto a 700mb CD, so if I ever needed or wanted to use them again later. I then just deleted the whole MSTS and that Route in one go. Easy fixed. No hassles, all gone. NO sitting there holding breath to see what happens when you go to re-start MSTS after deleting a route with its bits and pieces. By the way,,, WARNING... This separate Routes in cut down MSTS's is not for the new users, till you know your way around MSTS. To do the separate thing'o, do a search of the Forums about "separate routes". Maybe is of some interest, then maybe not. Everyone to their own thing. Mine happens to be routes in separate MSTS's, but then I run all mine with Win98 (now 8½ gigs) on a separate 20gig hard drive in a caddy, set aside just for MSTS. That's another story.Hope this helped and not opened a can of worms.
Regards,
John.

RE: Deleting Routes

I wouldn't advise it if you are going to buy add-ons in the future, which most likely you are, if you enjoy playing MSTS!Some add-ons will not run on a system if all the original routes that came with the original PC copy of MS Train Simulator are not there and present.JAY

RE: Deleting Routes

Why not just move the routes you want to get rid of, but don't want to loose in a "New Folder" inside the ROUTES folder. MSTS won't be able to find them, and it won't give errors.
You can pull them out one at a time ( YES, you can run only one route at a time), run them and put them back and you'll have a lot better performance starting up, etc.
