If other pressing activities had not been the reason for me taking leave from the Forum for a while, Bill Downside's (NERR) response in my "ABACUS Train Sim Modeler" Thread most certainly would have been ! I just can not be bothered putting up with some of these comments anymore !I am trying to be a Perfectionist in all I do, well known by some. Got to be, writing Mission Critical Accounting, Analogue Telecoms Communications and Office Administration Software. I am a well known Fan and Admirer of FREEWARE Routes such as the ALBULA, P.O.&.N., N.&.J.C., Seaview-III, NEC-4, Cajon, Wupper Express, LGV-MED, Arlberg, Semmering, New Zealand Route, XTracks, Kurt Kaminer's Seaview Express', 3D-Trains and many others, not listed here in any order of Preference, helping some improve their already EXCELLENT creations. There are also one or two who were on the receiving end of my Gratitude, expressed in other ways ! Maps for the N.&.J.C. and P.O.&.N., helping Teemu Saukkonen with a few problems, Kurt Kaminer with re-sizing his Consists, LINIE-27 with a Reverse Loop problem, Jim Ward with providing a Download Section for his BETA-6 on my Web Site, formatting David Beach's list of all there is in TSECTION.DAT, publishing my version of it recently, doing German to English Translations for Ralf Schölke, etc, etc, etc. Most of all I was one of the motivators behind the creation of the RAILDRIVER since giving PIEngineering the idea using their programmable X-KEYS Keypads back in 2001, helping with Installation Instructions and EXCEL created coloured Key Tops. Now I trying to talk them into creating an affordable version of it for use as a Flight Sim Throttle, Flaps, Speed Brakes, Communications, Autopilot, etc, Console for FS Civil Aviation Aeroplanes ! This here Beastie, try lifting it , cost me $ 1800 to ship to the U.K. and is nowhere near a complete array of controls compared with what is required flying a FS CA Plane for real, BYE, BYE - For The Time Being – image 1needing other expensive hardware like this one to supplement it.BYE, BYE - For The Time Being – image 2The BOTTOMLINE is that I have been "Complaining" many times about these guys GIVING AWAY their BRILLIANT work I could not improve upon, mostly to guys not really appreciating such EXCELLENCE, moaning about this, that and the other, destroying most of the Creators desire to produce more, such as the recent case with the WUPPER's Ralf Schölke. I sometimes feel embarrassed having to accept their FREE Add-Ons, knowing the amount of work that goes into creating them, being a programmer myself, albeit mostly in an easier, text and numbers only DOS based programming environment !Even paid some Creators of FREE ADD-ONs to send me CDs of their latest Add-Ons I can not download for Bandwidth reasons !ABACUS and other Distributors having been a Bone of Discontent with me and many others for some time, in my case since the launch of FS2000, I am working on an idea to create an International Online Distribution Centre for ALL SIMMING later this year, after the release of the next MSTS, applying strict Quality Control and testing of all products before providing them on CD.Would not be doing it for the sake of making money, not needed at my age any more, but for the satisfaction of doing a good job ! I still need to keep my Brain in good working order !!! Obviously, people helping me if things get too busy will have to be paid, providing employment ? In the case of MSTS Add-Ons, all the MSTS Default Files would be INSTALLME.Bat'ed, ROUTE-RITER'ed (with the permission of it's creator) down to the minimum set of files needed, TEST RUN and put on CDs for SIMPLE COPYING to users MSTS \ROUTES\ Folders wherever they may be on their hard drives, READY TO RUN.Permission from other FREEWARE Creators of Utilities such as ENGMOD, CONBUILDER, etc, forthcoming, they could be included on the CDs also, again for a share of the proceeds ! No Instructions nor Manuals needed, the same as with my Accounting Software, all being self-explanatory with On-Screen Instructions even Dummies can handle ! FREEWARE Creators will have to accept some payment for their hard work ! I refuse to give anything of theirs away for NOTHING, charging for my handling costs only !!! If there is sufficient interest I shall go ahead with it. The INTERNET being brittle and seemingly at it's end in it's present shape and form, misused by all and sundry, will make the need for such a Service inevitable. Some USA Online Vendors are already starting to refuse NON-USA Plastic of any kind, no doubt due to increasing fraudulent use of cards !It would be a simple Web Site on a USA SERVER created and maintained by my son Robert, one of the USA's leading SERVER Software Engineers at NOVELL, holder of 4 related Patents, yet to be talked into doing it , listing all SIMS Software available under their various headings. AND World Wide Simming Media Advertisements for those who are not aware of what there is on the WEB. I already have contacts with many of their Editors from a previous Raildriver's X-KEYS series of my articles published by them. $$$, £££ and EURO Bank Notes Surface or Air-Mailed to the Distribution Centre only and Software CDs Surface or AIR-MAILED by return as soon as possible. Probably a bit slow to start with if it takes off ! I might even add a SIMMER's FORUM to it (no competition intended, Nels ), paying members only, but controlled and monitored somewhat different to existing ones, as you can imagine.Upsetting me is not going to be of benefit to anybody ! In the words of a famous Countryman of mine "I'LL BE BACK" !!! O t t o

I don't want you to go. If I understand the message you and your son are going to set up a site for paying members? If so, please count me in. One of the reasons I have found a new hobby and been successful at it, is because of all the help from you and others. Please know that
there are a lot of us who are grateful and appreciate all your hard work.
Let me know any details.Annabelle

Otto, If understand you post correctly your planning on selling freeware stuff, and giving a cut to the freeware developers? It's not all about money My friend, Some of the freeware guys do it just for the sake of doing it, it's a Hobie, we all help each other and learn from each others experience, As for payware, Allow me to be the first to admit that I have $0.00 at any giving time, being out of school and unable to find a job, any payware items I want, I need to get money from my parents, as sad as that sounds, It's true, I'm probably the only teenager on the forum that don't have a job and flunked out of school, And sure I still buy payware stuff, I respect that guys that do payware, But I try to avoid payware for obvious reasons, unless it's a must have! So what I'm trying to say is, I cant support your choices, Theres nothing wrong with the forums here, theres nothing wrong with the library here, theres nothing wrong with the payware guys, So I just don't understand what your trying to accomplish by thisBYE, BYE - For The Time Being – image 5

I'm not quite sure I understand your game plan Otto, but it seems that monetary gain is etched in there, somewhere.
I haven't contributed a whole lot to this community, but what I have shared was 'cause of the enjoyment I got from creating it.
I've never had, nor will have, any thoughts of a financial involvement with something I create and share with the community.
I'm not belittling anybody that wants to create, for any reason, and I don't have a problem with free enterprise, but personally-well, a couple lines from one of my "Read me" files:"MSTS route designers, and anyone else-for that matter, can use the contents of "HkWhse.zip" so long as those routes, and/or any other possible means of sharing the contents of this "HkWshe.zip" file, are distributed without charge, and with proper credit to the creator-me."With all due respect Otto, personally, I wouldn't want to be involved with the monetary gain that could be available.
Just my 2 bits.

I'm sorry you're leaving Otto. I've never had a conversation with you here but I've read many of your posts on tinkering with Windows, trainsim problems, Hard Drive experimentation, and the list goes on. You helped me with many of my Windows problems and I thank you sir. I hope the world treats you with the same respect you've given to them, in the future and always.CHARTER MEMBER - Since August 2001 Looks Like a Pony, RUNS LIKE A STALLION

Otto:Good luck with whatever it is you're up to and I'll look forward to seeing you back here real soon.Way off topic, but since this might be my last chance to mention it for a while: not sure if you'll remember but a number of weeks back we were discussing derailments on the Wupper and I was having difficulty duplicating the behaviour you were seeing. Well I figured out part of the discrepancy: I'd been using time compression to speed up my tests, which I think effectively reduced the time-space distance between the nodes thereby preventing my train from derailing. Letting the test run at the normal time-step usually resulted in a crash.Note that time compression can therefore be used to help combat the node error bug, for what it's worth.End digression.Later,Rob.

Just a QUICKY

I haven't really "GONE" , just taken my leave for a while to take care of a number of urgent tasks which dropped into my lap during the past few days. Don't want you all to start worrying about me going quiet all of a sudden the same way we did when SNIPER seemingly "Disappeared" ! After all, I am 74 ! If I keep reading the Forum too much I can not turn my back on dolls and guys, NOT helping them with their problems ! But don't worry, OTTODAD will nevertheless keep his eyes on his friends in the Forum now and then, time permitting.A number of E-Mails mentioning confusion about what I meant relating to the Central Distribution Center needs clearing up. The first part of it refers to a remark made by Bill Downside about me suggesting that FREEWARE Add-Ons are not "QUALITY", upsetting their Creators ? I had to put the record straight about that ! Having PAID guys to Air-Mail me CD Versions of their FREEWARE Routes in the past, I could not download for various reasons and also the fact that we sometimes hear about good stuff being available elsewhere somebody in the Forum got to know about but NON-FORUM users would not, I thought it might be a good idea to condense all the best MSTS and other SIMs stuff into ONE SOURCE for all to get to know about by means of MEDIA Hard Copy advertising and to have access to.The Launch of such a Service obviously needs financing by me in the first instance and such investment will need to be re-couped by reasonable payments from those making use of it. Making HUGE PROFITS is no longer a priority of mine at my age ! But doing something useful and challenging still is ! Keeps my Adrenalin flowing !If FREEWARE Creators feel that they should be rewarded for their EXCELLENT work, as I think they should, in most cases producing BETTER than the Original Routes and Rolling Stock, then that is their choice and only handling charges would be applicable, no FREEWARE VALUE ADDED stuff as outlined below having been added by me. But then again, knowing myself, I probably would still include some. All Software on CDs supplied by me would be Quality Tested STAND-ALONE Mini MSTS Routes, after sorting any Copyright Issues with M$, ROUTE-RITERed, all required Consists included and EASY TO INSTALL anywhere on your Hard Disks. That's if KUJU maintains this way of running MSTS as they said they would. In any case, all these ideas will have to wait until we get to know what the next version of MSTS later this year is all about !Hope that this make more sense now ? Must discipline myself not to be tempted to go ONLINE to the Forum. Ruins my "Programming" concentration ! Any urgent assistance ? You can E-Mail me using the "Send Message" Icon above !Take Care all of you,O t t o

RE: BYE, BYE - For The Time Being

I think being able to receive a complete route on CD is an excellent idea ( as with Cajon pass, and others) I have dial-up modem, and some of these routes can take 4-6 hours. On top of that, theres the hassle of incomplete files with most routes, that you have to download all over again. I know of a least 6 free routes I would purchase now. On another note, thanks to Otto for responding to questions, from the most challenging, to the simple. There's alot of people on this forum, who only respond, when they have some kind of complaint, or negitve comment. Otto has helped one and all. Thanks
DejohP.S. If some route authors offer CD's of ther routes, please respond.

RE: BYE, BYE - For The Time Being

Otto never said it would be permanent. He has already given me a route plus required updates to xtrax, which worked very well.We are at the stage where all routes and activities, should include everything. All routes should include a standard automatic downloader, and all activities should include the trains and consists required. I, and a lot of others, will not download an activity that requires 40 other downloads in order to run. I did it once and the activity was useless in the first place. So I ended up with a pathetic activity and trains I did not want, after 24 hours of effort. The last activity I created took 10 minutes, lasts 2.5 hours and has 48 AI trains, all done with activity changer. Then I have protrain3 germanrailroads2, and 2 other free routes to install. Plus another 80 activities from the early days to start up again. So there is no way for rubbish any more
