Quick question time and hoping this is in the right forum (if it isn't let me know)I installed the 3dtrainstuff Cajon Pass Add-On (very very happy with it by the way) but I am having problems with the SF Coal to Portland Cement activity (think it is coal to Or Grande? forgive me not enough coffee this morning). The problem is at the beginning of the activity when I back the locomotives down to couple up to the loaded coal gondolas. They never couple up or I get the infamous "derailed car", end the activity prompt.I went hunting through the documentation but didn't find anything on this. So wondering what I am doing wrong with the activity. Wrong direction?

RE: 3dtrainstuff, Cajon Pass Add-On, Santa Fe Coal to P

The only thing I can think of is you were going to slow, or too fast. The MSTS instructions suggest you can go up to 5mph when coupling onto cars without derailing. Any faster, game over. If you go to slow, ythere won't be enough force to couple, just like the real thing. Hope this helps, and good luck getting the coal to Oro Grande on time.Chris Bogley

Ooops should have put in that I have tried coupling up at 3, 4, and 5 mph 3 didn't work, 4 wouldn't work or I got the dreaded de-rail message and 5 I got the dreaded derail message all the time.Last night when I tried again I noticed that the couplers looked "different" the locomotives where big and looked "clunky" and the gondolas looked "prototypical".Completely at a loss now.(personal note...love the sig file)Chief

Hehehe....I dunno what happened to me one time...but I somehow took attention off my screen when attempting to couple to a gondola around Mojave, hit the damn thing doing about 15 miles an hour. No derailment, no crash, no end of game....but the gondola went rolling from Fleta back to Mojave Yard (UPHILL!!!) So I chased it down (or should I say, chased it UP....) and coupled more sensibly, and went back to doing what I was doing.Evaluation at the end of the entire activity? Perfect.Maybe gondolas just like to be rammed hard once in a while.

RE: 3dtrainstuff, Cajon Pass Add-On, Santa Fe Coal to P

This problem is NOT a speed situation. It's (I think...) a bounding box problem with the 3DTS BNSF Coal Hopper.Try coupling to the cars -- using the <6> view. You will see that the rear couple of the ATSF GP20 gets about two feet from the front coupler of the BNSF Coal Hopper, and bounces off. Doesn't matter whether you go one or a hundred miles an hour (of course, higher than five, and you get nixed by derailment...)Makes me wonder if all this equipment and the activity was tested thoroughly or if it was just tossed "into service".

RE: 3dtrainstuff, Cajon Pass Add-On, Santa Fe Coal to P

Thinking it might be a problem with the couple too (bounding box).I think my next step might be to open up the activity in Activity Editor, edit the consist there (or maybee try to edit it through Consist Editor) add a car, save, and then run the activity again to see if I can couple to it.I looked at the Activity using Activity Editor and ran it through the "vcr" tool and it just shows the locomotive going forward never backing up?However for the path there is a yellow lined path viced the green lined path in Activity editor, have to get the book out to see what that means.

Did you send your issue to 3d train stuff and if so, what did they say? I had an issue with the std "AO Cement Full" activity on Cajon Pass (not expansion pack) and then sent me a corrected activity in < 24 hrs.I was thinking of buying the expansion pack, too.

JM, What was your problem with "AO Cement Full"? I had trouble getting the second cut of cars into the siding. I thought it was because I didn't get to Victorville on time! I would like to get it fixed so I can make the return trip back to San Bernardino. Jay

>back to San Bernardino. Were you having trouble getting the train to reverse into the siding after arrival? If this is the activity I think it is, one of the switches here appears to be one of the bounding box impaired switches KUJU gave us. (I haven't done any looking to see if this is actually the case) These switches tend to "repel" your train at slow speeds. If I recall correctly, your train is sitting on one or two switches in front of a red light when you begin reversing into the siding.I encountered more resistance than I should have even accounting for incline, Rain, and a heavy train. I couldn't get it moving again. What I ended up doing was to request to pass the signal and rolled my train clear of the switches. Then I got a bit of a run into to the switches and made it through. If I'm thinking of the wrong activity, forget I said anything. -Jeff

RE: 3dtrainstuff, Cajon Pass Add-On, Santa Fe Coal to P

Jeff, That is correct, you are sitting on a couple of switches. I even tried putting it into Run 8 and backing into the siding. My train would only get so far and then start forward again. It would then just rock back and forth a few car lengths at a time. I was wondering if it had anything to do with how I picked up that last cut of cars. I dropped my train on the main and picked up my cars on the head end.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-10-03 AT 12:59 PM (EDT)

Jeff is correct, I found that one of the switches was trying to take part of my train down the other track. So by pulling all the way up, clearing your train of all the switches, and then making the reverse move into the siding corrects the problem.Btw, I've noticed the same problem in the CPA1_GP20_Local activity out at Lancaster when trying to spot the two cars at the Lumber Spur, clearing the second switch at the end of the siding before reversing solves the problem. Oh, and be careful, there is a MetroLink train that leaves Lancaster while you are down there, and it comes right up on you, scared the hell outta me, lol And Ted, if you have a Cajon Pass 1.60 cd, you don't want the update from our web site as that may cause you some problems.<EDIT ADDED>TF, we are developing activities as we speak for Tehachapi II, once they are done, we will take look at making some more for the Developers Edition.Best regards,

Ok...pretty sure I never downloaded the update from the website (remember reading something about that when I loaded the add on).Tried it again last night at all the speeds, including run 8 (figured I would really derail the cars), and got the same error, although I haven't added in a "dummy" car to see if I can couple to that, which would be coupled to the coal hoppers. Going to try the added car tonight when I get home to see if what that does.Ted

The link below contains an update for the coal hoppers.
The actual problem is in the .wag files, not the bounding box. Download HerePatrick

I just tried adding a "dummy" car to the consist and was able to back down and couple to it. When I opened the consist through Activity editor I noticed that all the cars looked like they were "melted" together. I couldn't delete any of the cars either. Also when I do a "ground" view while running the activity the locomotives and the dummy car look fine but the BN hoppers look funny. No spacing between them and the wheels look wider than the gauge of the track.Wonder still

Brad,Screen shot of the melted cars or the new consist? Can do one the other or both tonight if you need. One thing I did when I put the dummy gondola (a C & O gondola from Sandpatch) in was I deleted a couple of the BN gondolas and it looked cleaned up a bit, but I saved the original cosist under a different name.I also notice the the melted car syndrome also happened with a UP consist, I don't remember which one but can send you that one too.Ted

Brad,Bingo...well sorta.I had been just reinstalling Cajon figuring that it would overwrite all the files. Today what I did was uninstall it and then re-install from square one. That fixed it. So my thinking is that it wasn't overwriting the "car" files. But uninstalling it removed the car files.Anyway it works now. Thanks for all the help. I definately felt like there was good customer service from you guys, and would definately purchase more add ons from you. My BN coal cars are still melted together, and this among other things prevent me from fullfilling the 1st Barstow switching activity.. :-/ My version of Cajon is 1.3 updated to 1.6 with the patch from the 3dtrainstuff website.

I don't know if I can mail the CD back, it is not really mine, it belongs to my cousin who let me borrow it after he lost interest in US Routes and decided to keep only the European ones.. Besides, after editing the Barstow to Mojave activity to avoid the standoffs, the game seem to work well apart from the glitch with the coal cars. One thought struck me though.. The other guy who had trouble, apparently had version 1.6 as-installed, as opposed to the CD I have which is version 1.3 updated to 1.6 with the patch from 3DTrainStuff's website. Is there any possibility this might have something to do with it? In that case, is there any chance that while I work things out with my cousin, that you might zip just the 3DTS_BNCOAL directory from a 'pure' 1.6 install and send me so that I can try overwriting my current files with those?
