I don't like the default ones. They are pretty crappy. They don't look anything like the real things. Especially the Acela. I like adam wochekowski's (sorry for the spelling) realistic version of the Acela express with the 2009 and 2020 power cars. The old one is pretty crappy.I found another cabview from msts i think. It looks more like the real one.One thing i noticed, is that two throttles????

Hello Ty_train11,Since you opened the question of the spelling of the Austrian loco, here' the goods for you. There's no "special e", it's a "special o".The correct spelling is Gölsdorf, named for an Austrial locomotive designer who had quite a reputation for good design (though some of his locos were rather odd looking, an certainly not good looking). You can make that "special o", ö quite easily. The quickest way is to hold down the Alt key, and then type the numeric character code on the numeric keypad (the numeric code for that paricular character is 0246), then release the Alt key when you have typed the code. The character will appear when you release the Alt key. (Note: on N. American keyboard mapping, either Alt key will do - the the left is usually more convenient. On some other keyboard layouts, where the right Alt key is used to produce accented characters, it may not work this way - I haven't tested that).Another method worth knowing about - especially since it gives you a means to find the character code - is to use the Character Map accessory. If it is installed on your computer, it will be found in the Accessory branch of the Start Menu - in Win95 it was directly under Accessories, Win98 moved it to the the System Tools sub-menu. I'm not sure about the more recent versions. You can also start it from the Run window by typing the command "Charmap" (without the quotes). It will display ever available character for any font on your computer. You can then select any character (or several) to be copied to the clip-board, from where they can be pasted into any application which will accept text characters. The bottom right corner of the Character Map displays the character code for the selected character.
EDIT: Oh! I forgot to mention, I'm voting for Flying Scotsman - though I like the Gölsdorf and the Class 50 also. By the way, you forgot the Class 50 and the SD40-2 which were part of the 1.2 upgrade.
CheersJohn

I think that the SD40-2 is a considerable improvement over the default diesels that came out of the box. This is from a pure noob perspective of "looks", of course.

Let me add that the two dots over the German letters ä, ö, and ü are called an umlaut. They change the sound of the letter. The sound of ä is no problem for Americans, but most can't say ö and ü properly so they just pronounce them like o and u. In the MSTS tutorial the guy doesn't pronounce Gölsdorf correctly.Oh, if you're using Word (perhaps other Office apps) you can type any of these by pressing Ctrl+Shift+: and then a, o, or u.

In sweden those "umlaut's" that u call them are öåä. Stupid americans, cant pronounce them properly. If that was said in swedish it would be pronounced Yulsdorf.Interesting, huh?Justin

What about the Acela?
------My favourite LUL train------
HAPPY NOW? It's not moving anymore.
It's still the same train but in another livery, that's all.

The only 1 I don't like is the SD40-2, cause of it's cab view, imo, and this is just my opinion, it's like trying to drive a steam loco, sticking your head out of the window. I like the forward, good visibility views.

>Where can I get specular lighting cars and the FS? Now, I am really questioning. Do you have MSTS?
All the default trains have specualr lighting as long as you turn on specular lighting in the options.
And the Flying Scotsman is the default train for the Settle-Carisle route.

BNSF2081,but with a Dekosoft cabview and EMD567 sounds.Even tho it's not actually original,Justin Cornell's version of 2081.M/S version is garbage compared to this one.

Neither of the default locomotives you listed are my favorite. The default Acela Express used to be my favorite. But ever since Alex created a realistic-looking Acela Express trainset, I never look back at the old one again. BTW, you are the second person to do a poll on what's your favorite default locomotive/trainset and not include the Acela Express or the Acela HHP-8.

When I first installed MSTS, I was extremely dissappointed at the selection of motive power available. BNSF is not my favorite RR and all the steam power is European. The modern, high speed stuff, Acela, etc, are some of the most repulsive designs ever created by man. These flying turds fall right in line with the Toyota Echos for UGLY ENGINERRING to the MAX awards. I deleted MSTS. I was looking for American steam locos and it was months later that I discovered some reasonable addons that rekindled my interest in MSTS. Bill

I'm definitely going to go with the Acela for favorite default, but I replaced it so long ago with the new textures, I've forgotten what it looks like. The SD40-2 is a very nice looker, though.
