This is my first time to upload, so hopefully it will show up in the next day or so. It is called gesnd10.zip.It is not a stand-alone replacement, but rather supplements, and replaces some of the default Dash 9 sounds.I used a technique of multiple frequency-shifted streams to play engine, turbo and traction motor sounds. With their permission, I aliased NALW's compressor sound .... thanks guys! The lengthy Readme also details how I made the sounds in case someone else would like to try it. Goldwave is a wonderful tool and fun to use once you get some practice.I'd like to just monitor the MSTS SOUND DESIGN forum for feedback and discussion, if you don't mind.krswen

RE: Just uploaded a new GE sound package ....

I am very fond of these new sounds. Thank you! They are very realistic in my book. I suggest to anyone to give them a try.
Also, can anyone please sort out for me the scalability groups in the sound.cfg file.
Thanks
Rich

Scalability 5 is used when your slider is set to max in your options. 3 and 1 are used if you move the slider to a lower level.
0 is used to define AI engine sounds. At least that's how I recall some revelations on Train-Sim in the early days of MSTS.krswen

RE: Just uploaded a new GE sound package ....

Forgot to add .... I delete the 3 and 1 groups out of my files completely, just to shorten the files. I never run the sound slider less than full on.krswen

RE: Just uploaded a new GE sound package ....

Claude350 .... did you launch the MSTS Dash 9, or another loco that aliases to it?It just occured to me as I was running Train Store that since I suggested that you discard the old (hopefully you stored them in a safe place) d9_power_cruise files, any other loco that aliases the Dash 9 is still looking for them!I need to put an alias cab and eng.sms file add-on together.
In the meantime, put the original power cruise files back into the folder ....they aren't called by my package and won't interfere.krswen

Hmmmmmm ... when you went to update the soundcfg.dat file, did you cut and paste, or edit by hand? Any chance you slipped a digit or something? Seems strange that you don't get any sound at all.krswen

Thanks for your efforts...I downloaded it, followed the instructions, and everything worked just fine.Really sounds great with the headphones on -- that traction motor noise gives a whole new dimension to the Dash 9.Again, thanks for your efforts!!

After changing the throttle setting in the engine file I now have two idle positions when using the throttle for power and there is no number 3 or number 7 notch when I'm under power. What do I need to do to fix that problem.

These new sounds are great! the only problem I had was the external engine sound was't loud enough for my taste, so I raised it's volume by editing the .wav file. I did not have to use the cab view file included with this, as NALW's Dash 9 cab, which I use, seems to work fine with it.P.S. I thought I would take this opportunty to mention something about the replacement BNSF Dash 9 I uploaded today. Included in this download are the default MSTS .SMS sounds, and the Dash9.cvf file. These were included to make sure the loco would run as-is. The simplest way to keep the GE sounds undisturbed would be to delete the Dash9.cfv, Dash9Eng.sms, and Dash9Cab.sms from my replacement engine BEFORE moving into MSTS. This also aplies to any non-default cab and sound configuration that maintains the default MSTS names for the .cfv and .sms files. Jon N,
