MP 3.1 Whitefish to Shelby Intermodal (Z-PTLCHC2)

I'm rather upset. I've driven most of the route (4 hrs into it). I know I'm almost done, but I'm having one of two problems. At mile post 1091.0 headed towards Shelby, the line goes from double track to single track over a bridge, back to double track. As I'm cross the first switch and start crossing the bridge, I get a broken coupler message. If that doesn't happen, then I start to cross the second switch (back to double track), then I get a car derailed message. I've tried everything from going through there at 30 MPH to .5 MPH, and it doesn't seem to matter. Is there something wrong with the track at this point on the line? Is there any way to strengthen the couplers to avoid having this happen? Thanks for the help. At this point, I'm stuck 1/2 hr away from Shelby.Shawn

That is a major problem with all of the Marias pass routes that I know..I did find the Conrail TTX cars would get through this area without the dreaded broken couple. Also there are several threads on how to fix the broken coupler problems with a program called Engine Mod...or something like that..Good luckBob

Either download Eng Mod from the files section, or go into each car and locomotive, and open the ENG and WAG files with wordpad, and change the Break setting under coupling to read:Break ( 9e8N 9e8N )This can be found about 12 lines down, again, under coupling. Change only that, and save it. Repeat for each locomtovie (ENG) and piece of rolling stock (WAG).

I've been doing some reading, and I've found several different fixes for the couplers. Thanks for all the help. I'll let you know if that works.

Well, I downloaded EngMod and modified the coupler break and damper settings, and my train is now safely in Shelby. Thanks to all who helped. After 4 hrs 37 1/2 minutes of driving, the train arrived at its destination.

Glad you made it to Shelby. You made pretty good time. I normally take a bit over 5 hours.

I would have made better time if it weren't for the Z-SSECHC1 in front of me. In bobs readme for the activities, he said you'd run the latter part of the route on yellows, but I kept running on reds until I got about .5 miles from the signal, then it would go yellow. Poor brakes on that train. I worked them to death!
