This new route includes The Flint Subdivision From Durand Michigan to Port Huron Michigan, The Holly Subdivision, from Durand Michigan through Pontiac Michigan to Milwaukee Jct. in Detroit, The Mount Clemens Subdivision From Port Huron to Milwaukee Jct in Detroit, Milwaukee Jct. to Flat Rock Yard Southwest of Detroit, and The Shore Line Subdivision from Milwaukee Jct. to Toledo Ohio. This route will have the correct DEM from the DEM-EX program, track has not been layed out has of yet but will be soon. And as soon as I place those big blue markers to I know where to lay the correct track and mile markers. The time period for this route is mid 1990's to present. I hope you guys will enjoy this route when its done and I will keep you guys updated every so often with pics to show you the progress of this route.

Do you have plans on taking the flint subdivision west from Durand? If not, then I would like to give it a try. So I am asking that you not go any further west than Durand and then that way, I can continue all the way from Durand to Battle Creek. Does that sound good to you?
I had plans on doing the route from Port Huron to Battle Creek, but there is no sense in two people doing the same thing, so I am offering to go west from Durand and allow you to continue your plans.Let me know your plans if you would.....Thanks!-Tim

I will not be going west of Durand, except for about a mile or two and thats it, I didint want to go any farther because I knew some one was doing that part of the subdivision, so if you like you can start from Durand and go west to Battle Creek, will you be doing from Battle Creek to Chicago? if so then the entire CN/GTW route will be complete.

My plans are to go to Battle Creek first and then maybe go into Chicago after that. Since I am just starting to learn how ti lay track and all, it may be a ways before I get that portion between Durand and Battle Creek finished, but I am glad to know that I can be the one to do it. I also have my reasons for doing that route. I grew up less than a mile away from the mainline and I have always wanted to model that line, so now I can.Now for some important questions. Where did you get the DEM information? Elevation and things like that? I would also need detailed maps of any Yards and such. (Track plans, diagrams, whatever you call them...lol)If you can help guide me in that area, I would be ever so grateful.Thanks!-Tim

I got my DEM from www.mapmart.com , once you get to that site look at the top of the page and click on DEMs link, then after that click on the High Detail 7x9 miles 7.5-Minute link, then click on the map and state on which you want to get your DEM from and go from there, its really easy to use, I recommend getting the Demex Tutorial, and Demex program for MSTS at www.dem-ex.com . This is what I used for my route.
Oh and I forgot there is there is part of the CN/GTW from Cinncinati OH. to Springfield OH., to Flat Rock Michigan that is not yet done, I decided not to do this part because the parts that I am doing is big already, but you or someone else might want to do this part of the CN/GTW, but if not then I might give it a try sometime in the future, but I dont know yet its not a big part of the CN/GTW and this is mostly used by the Ohio Railroad now a days.

RE: CN/GTW Route Now In Progress

Living in Battle Creek, I'd be really interested in seeing that. What period were you thinking of, before the downtown line consolidation, or after? (The city was more interesting, rail-wise, before the consolidation, but the present day has a more interesting yard layout.)RDF
