The long awaited and hopefully de-bugged version of the WIN-XP SR1 has been released. But with everything else from Microsoft I would not want to be the first to find more bugs and shall wait until I can be sure it is safe to install ! Let others suffer first. O t t o

LAST EDITED ON Feb-11-03 AT 02:19 PM (EDT)

It turns out that SP1a is very much like SP1. The only difference is that Microsoft's VM is left out. Microsoft noted that if you are already running SP1, you do not need SP1a.Edit
Microsoft is complying with court orders to include Sun's JRE. Sun's JRE will be included with future service packs or can be downloaded from the Windows Update section. Edward K.

RE: WIN-XP SR1

That is contrary to what Microsoft said last year after numerous problems with the original SR1 surfaced, admitting their existence and saying that users will have to wait for the Fixes until February !You believe anything M$ says ? I say "Seeing is believing" !O t t o.

If you keep waiting for Microsoft to release an update that truly works, then you're grandchildren will be grandparents and you will never see it work! The only thing that Microsoft could make that would not suck, would be vacuum cleaners.. Bill

Curious. It was earlier reported that that service release was not going to be available owing to the stay Microsoft got pending appeal.

Unrelated. This has to do with the current court battle between MS and Sun as of last week. The judge ruled that MS had to release a version of XP with the JRE within 120 days. Supposedly a patch was to have been available as early as last week. Then MS got a stay pending appeal and it was reported that that patch was pulled.

You said in your earlier message:> It was earlier reported that that service release was not going to
> be available owing to the stay Microsoft got pending appeal.Only Microsoft can say that. Nobody else would dare speak for them ! However, the SR1 is available, so I am being informed by the U.K. Distributors Channel I am a member of. So Microsoft say one thing and do another and what I said about believing what they say is "UNRELATED" ?O t t o

> So Microsoft say
>one thing and do another and what I said about believing
>what they say is "UNRELATED" ? No, what's unrelated is the release of a patch for XP without the JVM (1a) or the inclusion of the JRE (1b), and any bug patch release for XP-SP1 (SP2) which the aforementioned (1a or 1b) is not intended as.Anyway...This according to ZDNet Tech Update Today, http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1104-983169.html .Not a matter of speaking for them but reporting the news.
