>hi, i tried running msts on xp..but it gives a error like "
>no video, could not find vids:mp42 decompressorSearch for a file called "startup.mpg" on your system. It should be in the folder "Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\Global". Rename the file to "Skip_startup.mpg". Now try to run MSTS. MSTS runs great on Windows XP, based on the small amount of information you've posted so far it seems that your system is having a problem playing MPEG video files.

RE: msts and windows xp

Interestingly enough, i had that problem too... Wasn't any big deal though, it's just a little intro thing...
Oddly enough, though, it just started working one day... It was after a video driver update, and i have done MANY of those! This time, just for the heck of it, i ran the MSTS troubleshooter. Lo and behold, all of a sudden the intro video started working!! Of course, then i learned i really wasn't missing much... ------ BUZZ ------

RE: msts and windows xp

You guys have some good advice so I will ask this. If you change your os and lose your msts desktop icons etc.. Then when you run a new os how do you launch msts editor? (with no icon) I can load the game but I can't invent activities anymore without the editor

RE: msts and windows xp

Here is an easy way to put an Icon on your desktop. Right click your desktop and pick "new". Pick "shortcut" then use "browse" to go to your hard drive you have MSTS on. Usally "C:". Go to "Programs" then to "Microsoft Games". Then click on "Train Simulator" then click on "launcher.exe" icon. Continue following instructions and you will have you editor icon on the desttop."C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\launcher.exe" JohnDWW

RE: msts and windows xp

That will not launch the editors. All that does is let you change video driver, launch MSTS, troubleshoot and exit.It needs the extension -runeditor added to it to launch the editors as shown in the other thread.Bill

RE: msts and windows xp

>hi, i tried running msts on xp..but it gives a error like "
>no video, could not find vids:mp42 decompressor"...Too bad a post was deleted on how to fix it. It linked to a site in M$ that told you how to fix it. I followed it and it worked for mr If I remember correctly, it should be like this.
Open registry by typing something.ini(forgot it) in "Run"
It should open in Notepad.
Search for the part where is says Microsoft Train Simulator
Somewhere there, there should be something saying C:\Program files\Microsoft Games\........\tsqrv
Delete the whole line except the Tsqrv part
So, it should now read only tsqrv(or whatever it should be, I forgot)
Save
Reboot
Should work now.

RE: msts and windows xp

I think this is what you mean, Phil ?Msts and windows xp – image 4But it's so much easier to just DELETE the Startup.mpg in \GLOBAL\ rather than messing with the Registry. O t t o

>Startup.mpg in \GLOBAL\ rather than messing
>with the Registry. Yes! Yes! Delete the G:\Program files...\Train_Simulator. So, now the line just reads tsqtz32.dll(I remembered I edited with notepad anyway, something.ini)
That's what the M$ support site said and what I did to fix it.
