Have posted this in the sound forum, but as its been 3 days since anyone has visited the sound forum, I thought I'd get a quicker response here. Can you copy, say,the US2 sound folder wholesale into a route that has no ambient sound at all? If so, is there anything beyond just copying that must be done, like written references, etc.?

RE: Copying Sound Folder

All Routes have access to the MSTS \SOUND\ Folder and others specific to itself in it's own \SOUND\ Folder.Depends on what the ttype.dat in the Route's Folder tells you and MSTS about what Sounds it uses. Anything not in there you will not hear ! O t t o

RE: Copying Sound Folder

The ttpe.dat in the route in question has only about six items in it. I'm thinking these could be integrated into the US2 ttype.dat file, if they are not in there already. Then use the US2 ttype.dat to replace the original, and then copy the US2 sound folder over to the route folder. Would this work?

RE: Copying Sound Folder

Not sure about that. Sound Sources and Regions are specified in the ROUTE EDITOR when the Route is being created and Loco Sounds in the Trainsets files. Unless the Route asks for these combined Sounds you will not hear them. The US2 does not need these additonal Sounds. Editing the two ttype.dat into one to replace the other Route's will do no harm. But to be on the save side, back the originals up first.O t t o

RE: Copying Sound Folder

This could get complicated. Instead of the whole file, how about just some of the sounds, mechanical and biological, being copied over.I'm assuming that these file names would then have to be recorded into the ttype.dat file of the target folder, and we might be good to go?

RE: Copying Sound Folder

Paul, adding Sound Types to the ttype.dat does not make them "Sound Off". They have to be called for by the Route. You could have Fun using the Route Editor and adding Sounds to to the Route ! O t t o

RE: Copying Sound Folder

I was thinking that the protocol would have been similar to the addition of objects to a route. Entries to ref.,etc. I had not seen a query as regards this topic prior. Also thought the methods used, would be similar to d/ling a sound file. Knowing the Route editor's reputation, I'm going to think on this a bit more.

RE: Copying Sound Folder

The highest number of file calls I have seen in the ttype.dat for any route is 10, and all of these are defaults.mervyn@madasafish.com

RE: Copying Sound Folder

O.K. Paul, this is what you can do in the Route Editor.Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 1The yellow markers on the track define Sound Regions, at the bottom the first marker points towards the "Default Sound" Region, "clickety, clack", the next pair define a Sound Region in between, playing a "Going over Point/Switch" noise I am messing with although it is a "Straight", followed by another marker restoring the "Default Track Sound".The jellow pillar beside the track is a "Sound Object" in this case a cow going "Mooooo" ! Had no cow in this test route to place beside it. A train passing this "Object" would trigger the "Moooo". You could also put a car there going "Moooo" if you got that sense of humour ! Trying to make it trigger the Points Sound also but there is no such Sound Object. I am going to create a new one by copying an appropriate sound over the "Moooo", I have no intention of using anyway. Have a go, but BACK-UP first !O t t o
