Boring day today, doing a lot of projects around the house....so I figured I'd spend half the day downloading the N&NJ route by Teemu S. With the 56K dialup, I'm expecting it to take a few hours with the various parts -- no problem, as I'm busy with other things, can also babysit the computer when it's time to start another section.Anyhooo....
There are five parts to N&NJ route, each about 16-18MB. Got them already downloaded. There are some updates....here's what I have:
njc11.zip
njc13upd.zip
njc14upd.zip
In the File Library description accompanying njc13upd.zip, it states that TWO previous updates are required. The ONLY previous one in the File Library that I can locate (doing searches various ways) is njc11.zip. I am assuming that either the info with njc13upd.zip is wrong, or there is a missing library file going, possibly, by the name of njc12upd.zipCan anyone advise? Is the info with njc13.zip possibly mistaken, or is there really a "12" update in there somewhere? Thanks very much!

RE: Newark & New Jersy route question

Yes, we all had the same problem and I can not remember what Teemu said happened to 12 ! Start Installing Version 11, 13 & 14 and lastly XTracks. The new Tsection.dat in the Root of \GLOBAL\ MSTS should be at least a January 2003 one.Good idea to UNZIP everything into temporary Folders first, create the new Route \ROUTES\USA_NEC\ and carefully COPY everthing into it, starting with VERSION 11. After every N.&.J.C. Version RUN the Installme.bat in the Root of \USA_NEC\.I have not installed the 14 because having hacked the previous version doing so would overwrite all my work. Here is something for you you may appreciate, if you have not seen it already. Ignore the end-of line Loops I have added to the Route.O t t o.Newark & New Jersy route question – image 1

Thanks for the help!!!I got gutsy and it's working just fine.I don't know what the Tsection.dat version is that I have -- but everything works just fine, and I already had the latest XTracks up and running for awhile now. What I did was install the five-part route and check to see if it works. Then I did update 11, rechecked. Here's where I got gutsy, figured if it is missing something important in 12, I'd find out -- I installed update 13. Everything worked just fine. So I figured, I haven't hacked anything so I did update 14 too. The ONLY problem I had was an error message to do with a missing shape data file (US2fuelpump.s and .sd) so that was simple, just copy them from Marias and drop 'em into Usa-NJC shape folder.Works like a charm! I'm really impressed with this route, having grown up in New York City....So, now that everything works, I burned the completed, updated route onto a CD-ROM for posterity, never know if something will go wrong down the line. Again, thanks very much, Ottodad, for your help!!

RE: Newark & New Jersy route question

I also installed Newark & New Jersey today, as well as Xtracks for the first time. I installed XTracks first, then NNJ 1.0. I had downloaded the update to 1.3 & 1.4 but I read in the install docs for 1.4 that you didnt need the 1.2 or 1.3 updates if you are going to upgrade to 1.4 all you needed was the 1.4 upgrade and a working version 1.0. So I installed XTracks then 1.0 and the 1.4 update all per the install instructions included. I then fired it up and realized I forgot to download and install the add on trainsets required with 1.4 so I got into the file library and with the zip file list downloaded and installed those as well... Then I fired up the first activity in the route and gave her a go... Even after just completing the 1st activity I can already tell I am gonna love running on this route. What a great piece of work... And XTracks really opens up the ability to do some cool track layouts.Nick

Ok, I just updaded to 1.4 still cant run the explorer. I can however run the sim with the "test" act. ???? I have tried useing a variety of consists but it makes no difference. This has to be something simple that I am overlooking.

RE: Newark & New Jersy route question

Scott,What does "Explore Route" do after you have selected any of your installed Locos other than "Electric" ones, followed by one of the many Starting Points the Route has ?O t t o

RE: Newark & New Jersy route question

Scott, there is obviously something missing in EXPLORE ROUTE the "TEST.act" does not need. That could be a lot of things with a HUGE Route like the N.&.J.C. ! Pity MSTS does not tell you what it is the same way it does when parts of Consists are absent !You installed Version 1 to start with ? Can't remember but think there was a Version 1.1 before the 1.2/1.3 and 1.4 ? Did you install that one ? I think I started with the 1.1 Version, the latest at the time of me Downloading the Route ?Otherwise, DELETE the Route, UNZIP the Downloads into Temporay Folders for each Version, one after the other and Copy the Unzipped Folders to their correct destinations, making sure they finish up where they are supposed to, followed by running the Installme.bat each time.I presume that you have ALL the MSTS Default Routes installed and the Installme.bat missed nothing the Route needs and the Tsection.dat in \GLOBAL\ is the Jan.2003 version ?Keep in touch !O t t oAll the time I am wrting this, triple BNSFs are rumbling in the background, idling on my other machine.

RE: Newark & New Jersy route question

Is there a list of trainsets to download for use with N&JC, or did you find them by tracking the error messages when loading the program?

RE: Newark & New Jersy route question

OTTODADI have to echo Shepleys comments. Thanks for the route overview. It really helps getting around. (And I was born in Bayonne!) Others may like the Rockies, but I'll spend hours making switching activities for this route. I d'loaded all 5 files and Update 1.4 Initially there were a few missing file errors that I could easily solve with copying from the default routes. I hope Enocell sees this thread and knows that a bunch of us are using and enjoying a great piece of work. If you or others haven't found the Budweiser cars on Train-sim or Railserve, you've got to go get em !! We have to move all that Bud out of the brewery and on it's way to the world ! An awesome task !! <grin>Bob K.

RE: Newark & New Jersy route question

Otto,I'm confused as to whether you needed a file name for the cars, or just mean that you want me to deliver the beer!! I'm assuming it's the latter. Just let me know which siding on which route !! I found the cars at Railserve.Bob K.

RE: Newark & New Jersy route question more Bud

Yes, Bob, it was just the beer ! But now that I can see what they look like, I shall have to add them to my N.&.J.C. Consists, just in case we get a few Heatwaves this year ! Thanks, O t t o
