I realize some of you may think that this is not appropriate in this venue. If it offends you in any way that is a shame because, as Americans, we should honor and remember the astronauts that lost their lives yesterday in every way that we can. We owe them all a great debt of gratitude. I felt the need to express myself and this is the only way that I could think of.

Gentleman,
Normally I would agree that off topic posts don't belong in this forum, however something this major and inportant, in my opinion, is appropriate in any forum. It was a tragic event that affects the whole world. I think the tribute is very appropriate in any venue.Cal Rasmussen

No Rick, Roland is not correct, absolutely or otherwise. He is also not correct "Telling" other Forum Members what to post in this Forum and where. That is up to NELS and his MODERATORS, I also pointed out over in the FLIGHTSIM Forum where somebody else made similar comments.I regard this TOPIC the most important since Sept.11 and it should be mentioned in as many media as possible, giving all readers the opportunity to reflect on this sad loss, offer condolences and express their feelings.I too have no interest in other sections of this Forum. This is the one I like to read, being more frequented by SERIOUS and EXPERIENCED MSTS SIMMERS and DEVELOPERS than any of the other sections ! As long as Topics are of interest, may they be personal and slightly Off Topic as happens frequently, I for one DO NOT MIND ! O t t o

Well at least in our Forum we seem to have more understanding MODERATORS than over in the Brother Forum FLIGHTSIM where a "Condolences" Thread has been "Locked" and mine complaining about that too, one of the readers referring me to the Forum's "Outer Marker" section. One seconds thoughts perhaps just as well they did, the replies were the typical intelligent remarks one can expect from some individuals, which could have continued ?"Outer Marker" ? I read that meaning "Fringe" and less important than FS2002 and the Shuttle Disaster ! Talk about being insensitive ! At least one of their Moderators could have "Anchored" a message in the FS2002 and other sections like the X-Plane one which has a "Shuttle", requesting everybody to concentrate their contributions and Condolences in that "Outer Marker" one !O t t o

I agree with anybody sayin' that this is a forum related to train-simming. And nothing else.If I'd like to say something IMPORTANT about ANY issue related to anything else but train-simming I'd know where to post it: Anywhere else but not here. This does NOT mean that that I don't think of anything else but trains. The world is full of aweful things to make thoughts about. And everybody who does is right. But PLEASE: let's keep THIS place what it's made for: Trains in computers and people who love that.Woelferl

either way they are people. I don't understand why you care if someone posts about it. Just don't read it. sure the rules say this is for the train sim, but if someone post about something else let the site administrator deal with it. its not your site so stop complaining. you must a have really boring life or no life at all to care that much about an off topic post. the title was "Space shuttle columbia". again, if you are not interested don't read it. but also don't read it just to complain.

And, in fact, I am very glad that people like you and millions of others, including my ancestors, have come to this country to make it what it is today.Far from perfect but way ahead of whatever is second best! Unfortunately, we still have a long way to go to become a global community and even within this country itself.See, you got me doing it again. I sometimes wonder where this stuff comes from.Best wishes and I hope to hear from you again.

RE: Space Shuttle Columbia

For what it may be worth . . . After reading the post from LocoRo I posted my second message in response. My intent was not to create an international incident. Not only did I apologize in my second post I followed up by sending an "Alert" to the moderators suggesting that they might want to move my first post or to delete it completely.Since I know what normally happens when you "assume" I will not even try to make an assumption. I will only comment that it remains here and has been here since I posted it this morning. My personal thought is that an event of this magnitude is an international event and is of concern to everyone except those that might wish to ignore the fact or forget that it happened. To each his own!Chat rooms such as this have presented us all with an amazing ability to reach out to people of all races, religions and nationalities and discuss the problems and challenges that this shrinking world is facing. We should all attempt to show each other more compassion, understanding and respect. I have seen members eaten alive in this forum because their English may not be up to someone elses expectations. We are here to share ideas and information. Personally, the only foreign language words that I know would not be allowed on the forum. That is my shortcoming not someone elses!I have seen people on this forum reach out and give assistance to people that they do not know and will never meet yet the assistance is given unselfishly. I have seen young people act and express themselves with more tact and maturity than many of the adults on this forum. Each of us is entitled to his/her own opinion. That is what makes us different and it is the tolerance for those differing opinions that make democracies the world over special.I appreciate the support that many of you have shown for my right to express my opinion. Even if this post was placed in the wrong forum it is the tolerance and understanding of so many of you that will win out in the long run. Thanks! Now help me down from this creaky soapbox. I am much too old to be this high off the ground!

RE: Space Shuttle Columbia

I agree, the news was shocking. We also get our own national news here in the UK. I'm not sure you would like to hear about all the incidents there that leave me shocked. If you did, we would not have a lot of space for MSTS chat, as people of other nations would also want their own bit of space for the same thing, and the Board ends up gridlocked.
What the answer is, I don't know, but I do get a bit annoyed when I read yet another post about some foreign disaster which I can always read about on www.bbc.co.uk/news or www.cnn.com should I wish to do so. I read messages here to get away from the outside world, but it does seem that there are those who relentlessly want to intrude their national disasters - and this one is a US, not international disaster (much as you gentlemen from the States would like us to believe otherwise)- when all I want to do is read interesting stuff about my hobby.
Again, I say, I don't know what the answer is - maybe the moderators will have to do some thinking on that one. I, for one, hate to think what this board will be like once there are casualties in Iraq...Flame suit on and ducking beneath the asbestos blanket.Cheers 7&Y

What a load of absolute tosh. Of course it is International. Space exploration is not just for the benefit of the US and Russia. Being British myself I enjoy many of the technological benefits that have come about as a result of space technology. When you don your flame suit make sure you are using one of the old models and not one that was developed through space technology. Of course with the old models the protection is not nearly as good as that offered by the modern suits so be prepared to find it getting hot round here.Bill

This has been an interesting post, I presented my views and feelings and others presented their own. There are and always will be people who feel different then I do and I will always disagree with others as well. And although I disagree with them, I respect their opinions as I hope they will respect mine. My heart goes out to the families of this tragedy, and also to the brillant minds lossed.I only ask that no one is mad at me or anyone else over this, and I will surely not be mad at anyone.
