I was wondering where I could find some good radio chatter for inside the locomotive. I downloaded the "BNSF Cab Audio Pack," and put it in my CP SD40-2 (KHP), and can't seem to get it to work.
Thanks.
Steve.

RE: Radio Chatter

All I did was open my Jukebox, and left it on and then opened MSTS and played an activity. The only negative thing about it is that when your in an external view, you can still hear the radio chatter.

RE: Radio Chatter

Hey SteveThere are two ways to add radio chatter to your locos. Both ways are pretty simple once you have an understanding of how the sms files work. I'll see if i can explain it and show you how to do it....For this example I will be using the BNSF Radio Chatter wave by Ray Reyes.Choose which loco you want to add the radio chatter to and open the loco file and then open the sound file. Locate the cab sms file and open it to modify it. Assuming you have a higher end computer, you will only need to modify the SL5 stream section. The radio chatter will play randomly and not affect the the other sounds.Copy the Sound wave file and add it to the loco sound folder. Then open the cab sms file and go down to the loco sound section below the prime mover sounds. The section you will add the radio chatter to is where the horn, bell and other loco sound streams are located. You can add the chatter stream to the front or top of the streams or anywhere in between the other loco sound streams. Just make sure it is not in the prime mover streams. There are two prime mover stream sections at the top section of the cab sms file. You can copy what is shown below or modify your own file as described and shown below. All the periods shown below do not go with the stream. I added the periods so the stream will be displayed properly in this venue. This stream is set in above the horn stream. ..)
..Stream (
........Priority ( 3 )
........Volume(1.0)
........Triggers ( 1
..............Initial_Trigger (
....................StartLoop ( 1
..........................File ( "BNSFcab.wav" -1 )
..........................SelectionMethod ( RandomSelection )
......................)
..............)
.......)
)
Stream (
......Skip ( **** This stream allows the horn to be played at the sam
......Priority ( 6 )
......Triggers ( 2You will also have to go to the very top of the file where it says ScalabiltyGroup( 5 and locate Streams (xx and increase the number of streams by one. Example shown below.ScalabiltyGroup( 5
Activation (CabCam ()
Deactivation (ExternalCam ()
Stereo ()
Streams ( 12 <=== Increase number by one here
Now that you have this done, put the loco into play and listen for the radio chatter. Once the radio chatter is detected, you may find that you have to lower the prime mover volumes for the cab. Go to the volume curves in each of the two prime mover sections and modify the volumes as shown below. Only four streams may need volume level modified. (Reduced) You can go from 1.0 to 0.30 or whatever volume level you like.First section of the prime mover streamsVolumeCurve(

0.250 0.0
0.350 0.0
0.450 0.80
0.550 0.80
0.650 0.0
0.750 0.0
0.850 1.0
1.000 1.0The other way to do this is to alias the wave file if you want to do more than 1 loco and save MBs by not having a wave file in each loco sound folder. This is a little more involved and not difficult to do. Chuck Hebert
