MSTS has an option to uninstall and reinstall the MSTS Program does anyone know if you choose the reinstall, does it install over your existing Program saving your TrainSet and other personal installations or is it a complete default install. I’ve had my MSTS since day one, I’ve been real lucky in regards to very few problems, I have a few little bugs and glitches and thought reinstall might clear them up. Thanks for the response NORRISTHNUT
A "Re-Install" will not work if it finds TRAIN- & LAUNCHER.EXE installed !Re-name or DELETE those 2 and MSTS will "INSTALL" again, overwriting what is already in the "\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\" Folder.Don't forget to Install the 2002 Update afterwards as well !O t t o
Are you saying that by renaming those two files Train & Launcher.exe , that a reinstall will install over top my personal Trains & Consists? I don’t know if you would consider this extreme, but it is possible to Install MSTS into a Bogus Directory and compare and/or take files you want from it? I kind of have a knee jerk reaction my to MSTS.I read the forum quite regularly and have learned a wealth of information and have applied things that I have read and people talk about with good results. Thanks again for all the information . NORRISTHENUT
I spoke to soon all the answers are being posted NOW, boy talk about timing, it really is everything, That's why I'm NORRISTHENUT If it gets any better than this I dont't want to no about it thanks forum
OTTO - if you put CD1 into the drive it will come up with 4 options, one of which is add/remove. Click that and the next screen comes up with two options Uninstall and Reinstall. Now I am not advocating reinstall as I believe you need to move everything to want to keep to another folder and then uninstall, delete what is left in the TS directory and do a fresh install. But it does appear to be possible.Bill
Thanks Bill and the other people at the forum, looks like I have some options this weekend, sure glad it's snowing now I can hang out on my MSTS out'a here NORRISTHENUT

The reinstall will only reinstall the original files and will not delete any consists or routes that you have added. You do have to reinstall any of the updates that you have added to the original program as well as any changes that you have made to .eng and .wag files. I usually do this with engmod. If you have the original version 1 you have to reinstall the ver 1.1 and 1.2 updates. Also don't forget to reinstall the nologo file.Nascarphan
ALways best to save the "TRAINS" and "ROUTES" folders somewhere else outside of MSTS, uninstall MSTS..then re-install it fresh...then drop the "TRAINS" and "ROUTES" folders back into the sim and overwrite the existing folders when prompted..that's the best thing I've found.
