I'm new to the message board, and I was wondering if I could get some help. I'm just learning to download files into the right spots for them to work with my sim, so please bear with me.First error message:I downloaded the Florida funnel route along with the activity "Hotshot Intermodal." I follwed all of the readme texts before unzipping them. I also downloaded all of the required locomotives, and followed their readme texts. When I go to run that run, I get an error message as follows:"Failed to find SMS file
file:../../common.snd/ge_fdl/alias/ns_GEeng.sms"If I click the continue button, that message shows up again. After a second time, I can resume the activity. After a couple of minutes, I get this message again, however, I can always resume the activity. What does this mean, and how can I fix it? Most likely I messed something up in the transfer or forgot to do something. Like I said earlier, I am just getting used to uploading all of this stuff into my sim.The second error message:As I start the sim from the very beginning, right after it "loads info" (just prior to the menu screen), I get this message:"Error reading train database file
Error: Trains\Trainset\Dash9CSX\Dash9CSX.eng"This I know is related to the Florida Funnel route, as I also downloaded the activity "Amtrak Train PO98" and its required locos. I believe the file that I am having problems with is dsh9csx1.zip. There are two sets of installation directions, and I don't know if I am following the correct set.If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate any help.As a last note, THANK YOU to all of you who have put together items to put into the file library. I just discovered this hidden treasure chest - it is absolutely fantastic! Keep up the good work!

RE: Error messages

I believe that I did. I don't have any problem with the route per se. Before I downloaded the two activities and associated locos, the route ran without a hitch. I started getting the error messages as I was loading the rest of the files from the aforementioned activities. I appreciate that you are giving me various ways to look at things. Keep them coming! Please!!!!! I am looking forward to ruuning all of my new routes.

RE: Error messages

A general piece of advice: Download what u want, but install one at a time. After installing check it out, does it work? any probs? If so, it was the last installation causing it. Then u can either fix it or delete it.Even commercial addons will give errors in activity editor, as I have just found out! (Thanks 3dtrains for those!).David

Hi auseklitiswelcome to the message boards - hope you will always find the help you're looking for, it's really useful here.> "Failed to find SMS file
> file:../../common.snd/ge_fdl/alias/ns_GEeng.sms"That error means that the sim doesn't find the external sound files of an engine (or, if it pops up twice, of two engines travelling together). The sim works anyway, the engines in question will just be very quiet From the name of the sms, it is most probably a NS Dash 8 or Dash 9. The maker / repainter of the engine in question wanted to save disk space and make the download smaller by not including an own sound-folder of this engine, but he decided to alias the sound, i.e. make the engine take the sound from another folder. Many engines take the sound from one of the "common.snd" subfolders. The one in question here is, I believe, a sound folder you get when you download NALW's GE Widecab Megapack. If you do not have this pretty big download installed, there are two possibilities:

- Find out which engine gives the problem. - open Train Simulator/trains/trainset/dash9- Copy the subfolder Sound.- Paste it into the folder of the engine giving the trouble- make a backup of the .eng file(s) of the culprit engine somewhere safe, then open the engine file(s) in question using wordpad (make sure you use wordpad, because the files need to be saved in unicode format afterwards). - Search for "sms" in that .eng-file, and replace the entire string
-- "../../common.snd/ge_fdl/alias/ns_GEeng.sms" just with "d9eng.sms"
-- "../../common.snd/ge_fdl/alias/ns_GEcab.sms" just with "d9cab.sms"- Save and exit. Should work now.Otherwise I recommend that you go to your windows explorer, - open Train Simulator/trains/trainset/dash9 and - copy the sound folder inside the default dash9 folder. - Create a folder Train Simulator/trains/trainset/common.snd and paste the copied sound folder into it (or if common.snd already exists, simply paste the sound folder you just copied into it).- Open Common.snd, and rename the just copied sound folder to ge_fdl.- Create a subfolder alias- Move all files inside ge_fdl into subfolder alias, and rename the files d9cab.sms to ns_GEeng.sms and and d9eng.sms to ns_GEeng.sms respectively.- Should work now.On to your second question:> "Error reading train database file
> Error: Trains\Trainset\Dash9CSX\Dash9CSX.eng"That means that one or more of the activities you downloaded call for a consist that uses engine Dash9CSX.eng located in folder Dash9CSX - which is not there with you. For the activity in question to work you need to download this engine, which - as I believe - is a model you get with the Cajon payware CD. Find below the readme of my Dash9CSX folder, that may help you on.Lukas a.k.a Swissie

RE: Error messages

The Dash9CSX engine was once a freebie from 3Dtrainstuff. It is no longer available. Download Conbuilder from the Downloads Library and use is to substitute another availble Dash9 for it.The GE sounds are availble in the DL library. It is a large download as it contains quite a few engines. Search in the Dl Library for NALW, it is the GE mega pack.I helped Kent do the activities on for it and there were some problems with the way a couple of the folders are named. Early mistake on our part. The one thinl you need to look out for is that the one set of diesels from the A-Line site have more than one eng file in the folder and the two not needed for that engine need to be deleted. If you search , including archived threads for Florida Funnel you should fine answers to your questions.Kevin Arceneaux
