When running any routes in MSTS, centre of screen shows all objects in a strobe effect. Worse appears with the sleepers between the rails, as the continous strobe effects finally makes it unbearable to watch. Has anyone experienced this in MSTS, and if an answer was found to eradicate this error. The graphics card used in my computer is a nVideo GeForce4 MX460 64Mb DDR memory, processor Intel4 2.4GHz, and 1GHz DDR SDRAM memory.
Any suggestion or help will much appreciated.

I have an nVidia GeForce 4 64mb PCI card and I get a flashing "sunburst" with some locomotives. I haven't figured out how to get rid of it. I posted about it but nobody seems to have seen it. The sunburst appears at the top of the window in cabview.Cal Rasmussen

Maybe it could be a problem with the video card.Sounds as though you both have the same type video card and experiencing the same problem.Do you have the latest drivers? You may also want to check you setting for this card.I have the Gforce2 MX400.I get a flashing effect with some locos, cars, and bodies of water.I haven't experienced any problems from the cab view.

I used to have the infamous flashing water problem but someone found a fix for that. That was a MSTS problem. The flashing sunburst may well be video related. AFAK, I have the lated drivers installed. I downloaded the latest when I installed the card.Cal Rasmussen

How to fix the flashing water problem? It is a constant annoyance on the Blue Ridge route. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

RE: How can I resolve a strobe effect in MSTS routes.

My strobe effect apparently concerns the rail sleepers only from the cab view. Clicking numerical key 2 (arial view)again envolves the rail sleepers, this time the strobe lines are more spread into a half circle. This error has always been a bug, even with my older computer and Windows 98SE. Microsoft tried to solve it, in the end Microsoft support stopped corresponding via e-mail. Upgrading the graphics card driver has not removed this annoying error, and it appears that my computer is the only one to generate this error or is it my imagination playing tricks with me.

If you get the latest version of Route-Riter, there is a button in the Environment section labeled "Replace BlendATexDiff". Clicking on that button will patch all of the environment files in a selected route to fix the problem. If you don't have Route-Riter or don't plan to get it soon, you can edit the envionment files manually. Each environment file has a section which pertains to water. There you will find several references to a function named "BlendATexDiff". There will be at least three of these. Change those to "BlendATex" and save in Unicode format. Start with the file sun.env and editor.env. As with everything else, make backups of this entire folder before changing anything. For more information, do a search in the route builder forum for flashing water. There has been a lot of discussion on the subject there.

Hi memphisdoug,Yes your discription suggestion of the sleeper pattern is perhaps a better way to discribe the error. What is the drill to change the texture, this would be appreciated. I did try to adjust the Moire setting on my computer monitor, this had no effect. The pattern seems to affect only two-thirds up the screen for about two inches, anything above or below appears OK.

RE: How can I resolve a strobe effect in MSTS routes.

Have you tried switching to a different track texture? When you talk about the curved lines below it makes it sound like the moire pattern problem that I and others see with some track textures, for example the default Marias Pass texture. For me there isn't any actual strobing (flashing) going on, just the weird pattern that keeps moving ahead of me in the tracks. Try a different texture and see if that helps.
