Bill, I just ran 4 of the KCS SD 40's down Cajon with 60 mixed cars, and when using the dynamic's, I don't hear them, and my train barrels down the hill, even when using train brakes. In the cab, the dynamic brake lever moves to notch 8, but no sound, and it appears, no result. Any ideas?

What you need to do is get Bob's Physics upgrade and copy and paste them into the file. I do it for all of mine. There are quite a few errors in some of the eng files and these updates correct them.Kevin Arceneaux

RE: KCS SD 40's dynamic brakes, or lack there of???

the sounds used were just default gp38 sounds and as far as physics go, Justin Cornell made the model, i only repainted it, sorry can't help you there, as far as dynamic break sounds you may have to have your sound settings set to "high" to hear them. I only repaint trains, loco physics and modelling isn't my "niche". Kevin gave good advice, maybe i will put those on my sd40's. Unfortunately Justin Cornell hasn't been here in a very long time so as far as a general physics upgrade for his locomotives, Kevin gave the best suggestion.KCS SD 40's dynamic brakes, or lack there of? – image 3

I alias mine to MLT sounds. I created a bunch of sms file to use different horn. I like their sound for EMD's.Kevin Arceneaux

Kevin, sorry if this is a dumb question, but do you copy and paste the physics upgrade into the sound file, or where in particular? Thanks!

phyv45.zipNo the physics go into the eng file. Follow Bob's instructions and you will do fine.Kevin Arceneaux

I forget the filename, but there have been a couple sets of DB physics by Peter Baker....I have modified all my locos, and it makes one heck of a difference. As for sound, "kevarc" suggested using the sound from MLT...Kicking Horse Pass units have a great DB sound for the SD40's that you would probably like. The default GP38 dynamic sound is NOTHING...there was recently an update for that in the file library -- I grabbed it and set it into my default GP38, and now it realyl sounds like there are dynamics on the unit.

Just to update you, Peter Baker's study was incorporated into Version 4.1 Physics updates, and his methods vastly expanded in Version 4.5 Physics updates. Version 4.5 also fixes a number of other bugs which are frequently troublesome. I have nothing at all against Peter's work, it is superb, but you might as well get it and the rest of the improvements with Version 4.5 Physics.
