Hello to all!I am trying to run this new activity,"Historic Equipment Move". It starts up fine, but about a minute into the run it freezes, no error messages, it just quits. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks.Mike

RE: Act for Ohio River

I beta tested this activity for Mike and it worked just fine until just before the end where there was a problem which was sorted before it was uploaded to the library. I have run the uploaded version without a problem as well.It may be a missing shape or whatever, especially if it happens in the same place every time. You could put the route through Route Riter to see if anything is missing.Bill

RE: Act for Ohio River

I've beta tested it too,and eventually finished it with a clean report. However,I too have a suspicion that something clashes with the MSTS software.I had mysterious crashing "send\Don't send" messages around MP 42-41.I also got blank signals from 10 miles out of Marrietta to the end of the activity. They still showed it the Track Monitor correctly, but no track signal lights. The crashing was cured by experimenting, and if I held the track speed to under 20MPH in the crash area,I got through OK.Once through that stretch of line,I could resume the limit set by the activity. Now,I have over 110 other Ohio Rail activities, non of which exhibits this strange behaviour,so whether the rolling stock combination causes problems,or there's an activity flaw elsewhere.I don't know.It is a good activity, don't get me wrong, with more than the average amount of AI traffic, around 20 services, some of which are not so obvious. It works for me,but if it was polished up a bit,it may run better, and the author should be commended for his efforts.

RE: Act for Ohio River

And I must correct my earlier post. Having Read Larkie's reply I was curious to see whether a problem I found when testing had been solved and how. Looks like I installed the beta version again as the problem is still there. When I ran the activity a couple of days ago I was really late finishing so the problem wouldn't have occurred.I have deleted the beta version now and installed the release version. I have done half of the activity with no problem.Sorry about the confusion Bill

RE: Act for Ohio River

Thank you all!It seems if I save just before it crashes, then go back and start there, I can run awhile longer, but I still crash. Strange. Yes, I agree no other activity on the route ever has given me trouble. Yhis sounds like a great act, so I'm eager to run it, I still work on it. Mike

RE: Act for Ohio River

Mike,
Were you able to get it working?
When it crashes what happens? does it lock up, Send/Don't send? or something different?
If your still having trouble, could you restart the activity and use F10 to see what time the problem happens? This will help me to see if any other services are starting at that time. There is a commuter train that leaves Zanesville while your switching in the yard. There is also an AI freight that starts a few minutes into the activity.
I am in the middle of building a new PC for a friend and will be working very late tomorrow so it might take a while for me to get back to you. Mike D.

RE: Act for Ohio River

Mike,Thank you very much for the reply. No still can't get past the point with a time line of 08:05:45. I get the send/don't send message. There is an A1 freight crossing below. I have checked this activity with ConBuilder, RouteRider, MSTS Activity Analysis, and RouteControl. Everything seems ok. Thanks for your help.Mike

Well it's a mystery to me - I have run it again and can get past that time line without problem. Do not understand it at all.Can see nothing in the activity editor that would be causing the problem (but I am very inexperienced in the use of the editors).Hopefully Mike will come up with an answer for you.BillJust as a matter of interest have you tried running the activities B10-23 or B10-25 which both start from Zanesville Yard or indeed tried an Explore Route from Zanesville Yard in Winter. It may be a coincidence that the timeline for the errors are the same. Probably not but worth the experiment. Just seems strange that there have been nearly 300 downloads and this hasn't come up before.

RE: Act for Ohio River

Mike,
I don't understand what you mean by "There is an AI frieght crossing below" Where are you at this point? Are you following the instruc.txt file? At 8:05:45 you should still be switching in Zanesville yard. You should not leave the yard before 8:09.
Try following the times listed in the file. If that dosn't work try starting the activity and just sit there until 8:05:45 passes. If it still crashes I will have to do some thinking on what to try next. Mike D.

Mike,Well, if I was smart enough to read the .txt, I would know I should've been switching the yard first and not running out on the main. I guess I was a little excited and just brought the engines out of the barn and forgot to do any work! DUH!! I am so sorry! I will start over and let you know if I had any problems. I feel like an idiot! Thanks for your help.MikeOk, with printed orders in front of me, I followed them to the "T". After I left the yard with my train @8:10, I went through the tunnel, almost making the right at the wye, then the send/don't send message! I see the A1 train passing behind a commuter train at Zanesville Main, then bang. Now I'm lost, what happened?

RE: Act for Ohio River

LAST EDITED ON Jan-28-03 AT 11:07 AM (EST)

Has this activity changed from the beta version?I had no troubles leaving the yard, getting the equipment, then starting my journey. My send\don't send's were out by MP42,as I said before. What is being described now,so early in the activity sounds like an AI collision,or similar.I did notice heavy traffic at the start, and there is a passenger train parked on the middle track at Zanesville station.I noticed this train was still there, behind me,whilst reversing out of Zanesville Sub with the completed equipment consist.Normally,if an AI train collides with another,or a static consist, you'll get a "Derailed" halt to the game, but this may not be so,if you're far away from the action. You may then get the send\don't message instead. As I said before,I completed the beta version, with a no error report, after modifying my speed through MP42-MP44,but this does not explain this new rash of failures with the final version.Perhaps another rework is required.

RE: Act for Ohio River

You are correct about the derailment message. That's what I was getting when I tested the activity and when it happened as I was stationery I went into the editors. The time it didn't happen was when I was speeding just a tad and got through Marietta station before the two AI trains collided. This new one beats me - I have had another look in the activity editor and still cannot see anything. What is more I have done that part of the activity again without error.Bill

RE: Act for Ohio River

OK,
I'm stuck here at work and I don't think I will be home before 10:00PM.
In the mean time I have a couple ideas. Can you try restarting the activity? When it starts rush out of the yard without doing any of the switching. Stop at the signal at the end of the wye and sit there. If you see any collisions between AI trains we have our problem. If not. When I get home I will run beginning of the activity again. If it's good I can zip just the .APK file and send it to you without the text files. You can then delete the one you downloaded and install the one I send you and we could try that. So far you are the only one reporting any trouble with the downloaded activity. Maybe something got corrupted?
I did have a problem with the activity when I sent it to one of the testers. Down by Marietta there is a double track interchange that bends off out of site. I had a CSX stack train start on this track and head out onto the main. Well the train was starting on the main instead of on the interchange track and was getting rear ended by another train. When I looked in the Path editor, the path had not changed. I re laid the path and everything was fine. I don't have a clue why this happened, but with MSTS there are a lot of strange things that crop up. Maybe something similar is happening here.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-30-03 AT 12:43 PM (EDT)

Back again,Well, I ran to the Zanesville area and stopped at the end of the wye, and waited for the A1 train to come and I got my send/dont send thing, but finaly some error messages, it seems every car I changed in the consist came up with a can't add to world error! I always change the default equipment with never a problem. So, I re-installed the "HEM-01-A1-GM-C30-69" to the orginal setup, went back to the same spot and watched it go past with no problems! I started the activity from the start, getting the cars from the yard, and leaving I guess late from there, after 8:10. On my way out it crashed again with a error message I have never seen before - "Button load error - object transgroup does not exist" Huh?! Mike D, please don't get me wrong, I know it's not your doing, the @#$& game can do very bad things to different people. I come here hoping someone else ran into this problem, and can help me. When I get the time I will reload this very fine activity and not change anything and see what happens.Mike

RE: Act for Ohio River

That "button load" error usually happens when either MSTS whilst loading a "Saved" activity that had the <F9> "Train Operations" open, before saving,or during play if you press <F9>,it can't find the transparent background for the "Train Operations" window.Drag that window around whilst it's showing, and you'll see the transparent box I'm referring to.Hard to explain,so I trust you followed the above. It should have no correlation to a particular activity though, unless of course the MSTS software is overwhelmed by multiple errors. As the default equipment was changed, you must check that the overall length of the said consist hasn't altered,as a longer train may collide with a an object the authors original won't.Any saves made between such stock changes become invalid,so you can't go back to them on subsequent reruns,IE saves,as you must always start fresh from the activities start point.
