Seasons Greetings! This is my first post here, hopefully not the last :OI bougth the trainsim yesterday and have been looking the web for support, forums and all related stuff.I have one question that might be answered somewhere else already, so my apologies beforehand. Anyways, my question is:Can you make any use of the massive world scenery data that Microsoft has provided with it's Flight Simulator 2002 game? Or are these games intentially made so that they cannot benefit from each other? What I mean by this is that we all know the FS2002 contains a world wide information base with even a possiblitity to download real time weather. Please do not say that I can't make a track thru USA with the FS2002 ground data and that's just because.BR, Cpt.Saigon
In many interviews with Kuju (the authors contracted by Microsoft), they have described in great detail the significant differences between simulating a train and simulating an airplane. As a computer programmer, myself, I can agree with them wholeheartedly when they say that there is a world of difference. The scenery for FS is optimized to be displayed from a great distance and at great quantities at a time. The TS scenery is optimized to be displayed for relatively small chunks at a very close scale. Believe me, if it were possible to import FS scenery you would be rather disappointed. That said, there is a *lot* of very high-quality add-on content for TS both commercial and freeware. Just look around this site and explore the net and welcome to the wonderful world of MSTS!
Hi there. Thanks for the kind answer. That cleared things out for me.May I wish you and everybody else on this boardMERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR Hoping to see You in the multiplayer mode, maybe in the next release of MSTS.BR, Cpt.Saigon
Cpt_Saigon - Since no one has yet mentioned it, the largest and - many of us believe - the best source of TS add-ons including routes, scenery, locos and cars is right here in the Train-Sim library. A quick introductory view of the 300 latest files can be had from the Train-Sim homepage, click on "Site Map", then "Newest Files" in the File Library section. I don't have an overall figure, but probably the total files now available is in the thousands. Free access is said to be slow. I don't know about that because I have subscribed to the fee basis access over a year and consider it the best bargain in all of the Internet - for a MSTS user and railfan I think should be the qualification.Bing
