I have loaded MSTS 4 times now. The last time with only 1 route. The problem that I have: When clicking the icon it keeps asking for the correct CD to be entered, makes no difference if disk 1 or 2 is in the drive. Will not run! Kit is Dell, Pentium 3 500.
528 RAM. 60 gig HD. I am begining to suspect faulty program in some way. Anyone have any ideas please?

RE: MS Train Sim

Actually, I've seen this problem addressed here before. Either try the search feature, or hope someone shows up who remembers the fix.ALSO: With a P3 500MHz machine, I wouldn't get too excited about installing MSTS. That's scraping the bottom of acceptable performance. I doubt you'll be very happy with how MSTS looks or runs on a 500MHz machine. You're due for a BIG TIME upgrade.Pop

Harumph....I ran it on a PI MMX 233 & Monster3D (Voodoo) when I first got it, it was not spectacular, but it was OK. Now it's on a PII 400 with a nVidia Geforce 256, I can run 1024x768 with details set at the top as long as I keep the visible distance set to minimum. Even on Ohio Rail! The only snag for me is looooong freight trains drag the frame rate down. Otherwise I'm running about 12fps external views and 18-20fps in the cab. I'm happy with it.Cheers!

RE: MS Train Sim

Hi Gerald,Have you done a complete install? that way the cd's should not be called for.If the complete install cannot be completed, then you may have faulty cd's of a marginal cd reader.Derek

RE: MS Train Sim

It seems to me that I read in another post somewhere that if your running WinXP and have the latest release (V1.2, now in stores) of Train Sim, the same thing can happen.
Also Gerald, if your systems video card or chipset does not support 3D Acceleration, Train Sim will not run.

RE: MS Train Sim

Nonsense about the burnt copy, I burnt myself one and it works perfectly, since found the originals, so use them, if reinstalling.MSTS has no safeguards for copying at all, or at least none that are any good! In any case, once loaded the game should run without discs. Version 1.2 did not change things for me, but then I have a proper registered version. I only copy as back up for what I have bought, which is how it should be.David

I also was running a burnt version for about 2-3 months. Never had to put the disk in to get it started. Now I have v1.2, got it for x-mas, and now I have to suffer, lol, with putting in the 1st disk to get it started. Problem is now, with the "real" copy, I now have no sound when I go to the exterior view, then no sound when I go back to the cab. I have tweeked the display settings and the sound settings, still nothing. I can live with having to put the CD in, lol, but this no sound deal outside of the cab could kill a man, lol.HELP! I also forgot to mention, the only problem I had with the burnt copy was the jap1 route was corrupt, but other than that everything worked find. You'd think with new stuff, straight out of the box should run fine without having to install and uninstall the stuff a thousand times lol. I'm sure I'll figure this out soon, but any advise will help greatly.

RE: MS Train Sim

I had over 20 attempts at installing MSTS.I selected "full install"
then it installed disk 1 then I changed to disk 2 it continued the install but then an error message cam up time and time again.
The message at the bottom asked to retry or cancell so I selected retry and nothing happened the drive was not responding.
So I cancelled the install and what was installed was removed, then I went to my computer to look at my drive list and found out the drive was missing, so i had to reboot.I eventually went out and purchased another copy of MSTS(at the new lower price) and everything went fine with the installation of MSTS.

If you are running XP,there are problems with the safedisk copy protection (the safedisk protection is on the 2nd disk - that's were you will get the failure during install) - you can get a patch from safedisk for that issue. If the installation ran completely, then that's not the problem. But one thing that may help - install the patch that microsoft has put out for train-sim : it seems to break their safedisk protection that requires the original disk to run Train-sim.

RE: MS Train Sim

Thanks to all of you who replied to my plea for help.. I eventually got running but, as some of you have pointed out, a P500 does not do it justice. I will now be looking to upgrade my system to a P4 3k. Thanks again. GLeaNeR.
