Has anyone else noticed how slow downloads have been the last couple of days? I mean slow. I have RoadRunner Cable and it has got as low as 1 kbs. AVSIM downloads at 150 kbs or better, so I know it is not my computer.Dave Horton

RE: Train-Sim downloads slow

Probably something at your end. I have Charter cable ISP (northern lower penin Michigan). I regularly get 125 to 140 d/l speed from the library and have been using it a lot the past few days. My basic connect speed is 1.5 Meg, but that doesn't always mean much. Train-Sim isn't the fastest - I've tapped a few with 200+ d/l speed - but it is far from the slowest. Some stand alone payware vendors servers are impossible, even at 3 AM EST. Have you tried: http://www.speedguide.net/ ??? When I first had cable ISP installed back in March I wasn't getting what I should in terms of d/l and general performance. SpeedGuide pointed the way to a bunch of reg tweaks and other things to do. No question my cable performance was better after following their suggestions. If you don't like hacking the reg, I believe several of the important tweaks come in a packaged .reg file you can download and run. Highly recommended for all cable ISP users. Could also be you are trying to access the library at peak cable usage times; when cable systems become overloaded they can get REALLY slow. This is more likely to happen in an urban area than a small town such as where I live. Bing,Thanks for answering. I would agree that normally one would think that there were something wrong with the computer. However AVSIM Downloads normally on my computer and other sites as well. Anyway maybe things will work later. I was just wondering is all. I will just let this subject die.Dave Horton

>Dave Horton Don't mean it could be just your computer. Per message, could easily be your local cable being overloaded ot other problems with the cable ISP. I don't know, I guess I have a pretty good cable ISP. I've been downloading Train-Sim library files steadily for the past three days and no problem any time of day or night - always 125 to 140 d/l speed. Charter says they have invested a lot of money in better equipment over the past few months - maybe they really DID do that.About the only interruption in cable ISP or TV we get is when a bad storm starts pulling down utility lines. Not cheap by any means, but when I start hitting the TS stuff heavily it pays for itself. Thanks, guys, you make me feel a lot better about my cable provider.

RE: Train-Sim downloads slow

I'm running a 56K modem 'cuz I can't get DSL where I'm at and will NOT give the local cable company any business (they are totally rectal when it comes to customer service, and the rates are always going up, up, up).I've downloaded a few larger files the other day and haven't noticed any problems -- in fact, I thought things were FASTER than normal, figuring everyone was out holiday shopping instead of sitting in front of their computers downloading stuff!

RE: Train-Sim downloads slow

I was downloading through my DSL yesterday, and was getting speeds only in the 2.2-2.4 KPS range. Something seems to have been slowing things down yesterday. Today seems better.

RE: Train-Sim downloads slow

Not totally sure on this, but the reason for slow download for some with cable and a lot faster for others might be a problem with the routing servers. I've come up agsint this and there isn't a thing you can do about it - unless there is a way to specify which server will be utilized. Haven't been this deep into the subject for a long time. There used to be a small app that returned the complete route for a connection. I used to be fooling and fiddling all the time with a dialup to get better downloads. With cable it seems to work pretty good, very good or not at all. Can't remember the last time a d/l dropped to less than 125 - that may have more to do with the servers I have NOT been accessing. But I will say Train-Sim isn't one of them. I get instant connection and no wait at all for the download to start plus good speeds. Are you people with this problem subscribers or not? Non-subscribers sometimes experience difficulties. So far as I am concerned the annual fee Nels charges is the best bargain on the Web - others may not agree but it is for me.Bing

RE: Train-Sim downloads slow

I just downloaded a 11MB file from this sire and it only took 1 min 52 sec.the lowest it got to was 100kb towards the end on the down load it started off great with well over 200kb.I am one of those who paid the annual fee and I agree with bing ita a great bargain because you get instant access and faster downloads. Before getting the first class membership my fastest DL speed was 9.79 kb and I'm on cable.plus the advantage of first class membership is "you" choose the time you can download instead of trying to find that lull in internet traffic.

I agree that being a member is the way to go, which I am but that doesn't matter at this point. It is strange. As I can download 4 files at the same time and get 14kbs or one file and get the same rate. If I download something at AVSIM the rate really goes up to 150kbs. Any way Happy Holidays to everyone.Dave Horton

RE: Train-Sim downloads slow

I would say it has to be something with your cable provider or a routing problem with a server somewhere between Train-sim - which is in lower Manhattan or was last time I looked - and your home server.Though I don't know for certain, there has been talk that the new software filters providers are installing to defeat spam, spyware and viruses also can make life difficult for their customers. I have seen complaints where e-mail has been just about cut off. While a file d/l isn't exactly the same, the filters could be interfering there too. Just speculation on my part - I think its a shame you are paying for cable performance and not getting it.Bing
