Hello,I just installed MSTS on my Dell Inspiron 8200 notebook and it seems to be working fine, except that for some reason, the emergency braking seems to just come on by itself after the train is running for a little bit. It's quite annoying. And I know I'm not pushing the backspace button which as I'm aware is the only way to activate it.Any idea why? Thanks,

RE: Emergency Braking

Hi, I believe that your getting the alerter. It applies the brakes after a certain amount of time unless you move the throttle or press the reset button on electric trains. If that is what your experiencing than it can be disabled in the options or setup menu.
Hope this helps.

RE: Emergency Braking

Hi,I don't think it is the alerter.
It is the overspeed monitor, defined in the .eng file. Here is a section of the .eng file with what IMHO is the mother of all evil at MSTS EmergencyStopMonitor(
MonitoringDeviceMonitorTimeLimit( 0 )
MonitoringDeviceAlarmTimeLimit( 0 )
MonitoringDevicePenaltyTimeLimit( 0 )
MonitoringDeviceCriticalLevel( 0 )
MonitoringDeviceResetLevel( 0 )
MonitoringDeviceAppliesFullBrake( 0 )
MonitoringDeviceAppliesEmergencyBrake( 1 )
MonitoringDeviceAppliesCutsPower( 1 )
MonitoringDeviceAppliesShutsDownEngine( 0 )
) VigilanceMonitor(
MonitoringDeviceMonitorTimeLimit( 45 )
MonitoringDeviceAlarmTimeLimit( 37 )
MonitoringDevicePenaltyTimeLimit( 0 )
MonitoringDeviceCriticalLevel( 0 )
MonitoringDeviceResetLevel( 0 )
MonitoringDeviceAppliesFullBrake( 1 )
MonitoringDeviceAppliesEmergencyBrake( 0 )
MonitoringDeviceAppliesCutsPower( 0 )
MonitoringDeviceAppliesShutsDownEngine( 0 )
) OverspeedMonitor(
MonitoringDeviceMonitorTimeLimit( 0 )
MonitoringDeviceAlarmTimeLimit( 5 )
MonitoringDevicePenaltyTimeLimit( 0 )
MonitoringDeviceCriticalLevel( 151 )
MonitoringDeviceResetLevel( 0 )
MonitoringDeviceAppliesFullBrake( 1 )
MonitoringDeviceAppliesEmergencyBrake( 1 )
MonitoringDeviceAppliesCutsPower( 1 )
MonitoringDeviceAppliesShutsDownEngine( 0 )
MonitoringDeviceTriggerOnTrackOverspeed( 1 )
MonitoringDeviceTriggerOnTrackOverspeedMargin( 2 )
MonitoringDeviceResetOnZeroSpeed( 1 )
MonitoringDeviceResetOnResetButton( 0 )
)You see at several places a 1 between the brackets. Change all the 1's to a zero (0) and you will be running fine.
Remember the .eng file is Unicode, so open it with Wordpad or a Unicode sensitive editor.Dick van den HovenEmergency Braking – image 2
