RE: Xtrack Marias3.1 still crash but no as soon

Sol - Yes, keep trying.
1) Make sure you have v1.2 installed, not sure this would prevent MP31 from installing, but can't hurt to have it either. 2)Hopefulliy you backed up the \Global folder - copy it back, to get a clean restart at instaling.3) If you have RegCleaner or a similar program, run it and get all dupes and non-existentg references out of the reg. If you don't want to work with the reg, you might get away without doing this. If you are comfortable with this sort of computing, get and use MRU Blaster, it definitely helps. 4) Make sure there are no extraneous files in the Routes folder and sub-folders. If the mp31x.exe files are still there, get rid of them.5) Make VERY sure you have not inadvertently created sub-folders. - - By "following" directions and using WinZip at the same time I managed to create a \Global\Shapes\Global\Shapes sequence, which is not recommended for reliable performance. Drag and drop is the way to go if we have any problem with nested folders per above; this happens to me in all game installations, not just MSTS. - -6) Run ScanDisk, just to make sure disk errors have not been created (I get them by simply loaading my incoming mail, via the wonderful world of USB cable connection), then defrag - if you don't defrag at minimum weekly, well, lots of luck. Even if you aren't successful at installing MP31, you'll have a system that runs better. Last hint: Make sure default routes are "stock" and not changed in any significant way, if they are the .bat file will copy incorrect files and this can definitely be a problem. Maybe some day TS will grow up and we won't have to do mass copying just to install a new route - maybe, maybe not. I am not holding my breath.Good luck, I made it work and you can too, Bing

RE: Xtrack Marias3.1 still crash but no as soon

Yes! I'm getting closer too! To what? Installed X Tracks, MSTS now loads! Great, select MP 3.1, it's still going okay: then I click on explore route; and I'm going!! for about 20 yds. It hangs!! oh yes!
so, its Ctrl+Alt+ Del: I get "Shape file failed to load" A1Pnt5RgMnl.s
Continue? I click yes! and that's the that. End of.

RE: Xtrack Marias3.1 still crash but no as soon

A1Pnt5RgMnl.s is the 5 degree manual right hand switch, one of the missing files from the original MSTS and one of the ones I took from XTracks. The 2.5 degree and 45 degree right hand manuals also need to be copied. It seems that the problems people are having depend on what changes, if any, have been made to their track files since installation.

RE: Xtrack Marias3.1 still crash but no as soon

Check the Marias31\Shapes folder and the Global\Shapes folder for the following 6 files:A1tpnt5drgtmnl.s
A1tpnt5drgtmnl.sd
A1tpnt2_5rgtmnl.s
A1tpnt2_5rgtmnl.sd
A1t45dyardrgtmnl.s
A1t45dyardrgtmnl.sdThey should all be present in both locations.Check the Global\tsection.dat file by editing it with wordpad.Scroll down about 3/4 of the way to TrackShape ( 220 (you can also search for this with the exact spacing shown) The entry should look like this:
TrackShape ( 220
FileName ( A1tPnt5dRgtMnl.s )
NumPaths ( 2 )
MainRoute ( 0 )
SectionIdx ( 1 0 0 0 0 180 )
SectionIdx ( 2 0 0 0 0 182 174 )
ManualJunctionShape ( )
)
If it looks like this instead:
TrackShape ( 220 )
then that is the problem. The entries for tracks shapes 222 and 224 should also be there for the 45 degree and 2.5 degree right manual switches. If any of these are missing, then I think the best thing to do is install XTracks which will provide a tsection.dat with the correct entries.Bob Siederer

It installs easily - excellent insttuctions and there is even a backup global.dat file included for the all-thumbs person. I like the looks of Xtracks, been meaning to try it, this is a good opportunity - a liability turned into an asset. Can't ask for more - and its free.Bobs - thank you for the detail on the shape files. For those of us who don't mind opening and editing files it is invaluable support information. Bing

I like Xtracks too. I have had Xtracks installed but it appeared that some routes did not use it. Then again sometimes “we” (You and I) see that the installation of certain routes and or add ons requires that our set up be “defaultish.” Tell me that Xtracks is fine for all routes and I’ll be ready to give Xtracks another go. Doesn’t Xtracks do another extra little job on frame rates? If there is a way to install this latest Marias without the very nice Xtracks that is my preference! Very respectfully submittedjivajiva

TS seems to run fine with Xtracks installed.I find no particular frame rate hit that could be traced to Xtracks. If anything, the fps coming out of Shelby is higher than what I am used to seeing. Far as I know we don't get much better than 59 fps in this sim. I also did a test with Arlbergbahn, an electrifed version of the Innsbruck route. Lurching and stuttering in the same places, but no worse than pre-Xtracks and frame rates are the same as I remember. This may not be true for all users, these days it seems every computer is a different system - plus I have just started using TS with Xtracks, so comments in that regard are qualified. If I find a performance hit I will certainly report it - I don't think that is going to happen however.Bing

RE: Xtrack Marias3.1 still crash but no as soon

Bing, you're right, I left out the "d". XTracks and MSTS are quite compatible, just read the cautions in the XTracks documentation if you build routes. We started the work on MP3 well before xtracks was around and just never converted over to fully use it. But, since I did use a couple of the default sections that XTracks activated, I got caught with a changed tsection.dat that I forgot about. Installing XTracks will get around the problem.Bob Siederer

RE: Xtrack Marias3.1 still crash but no as soon

Bob - I ran the "Morning Intermodal" activity and everything went just fine. I assume when the reworked .apk files are expanded it is OK to overwrite the consist files - they might be exactly the same, but the .apk routine wants to overwrite them. There were two AI trains, did both meets with no problem.BTW, I cleaned the MRU lists before running the above activity and it seems to help reduce lurch and stutter. Still get a slight pause when an AI train is due to appear around the bend. Question: Is the Train Artisan SD70MAC referred to in the BN Grain activity - for which an edited .eng file is provided - in the Non-standard Rolling Stock zip file? Or do we have to get it from TA direct? Thanks for a fine upgrade of the Marias Pass route; I'll be enjoying this one for a long time, I'm sure of it.Bing

RE: Xtrack Marias3.1 still crash but no as soon

It is in the archive MSTS_D_US_SD70_011124 in the non-standard Rolling Stock folder. What you do with the overwrites of consists is up to you. I can't say for sure that someone didn't change the consist from one activity to another. It would be bad form to take an existing consist and change the cars but keep the same name as it might mess other activities up. Having said that, I don't know if anyone has done that or not. As I repacked each activity, the only consists I had on the system were the default ones, and I never replaced any of those. After each activity was done, I'd erase its consists so as to not have the potential conflict.Bob Siederer

RE: Xtrack Marias3.1 still crash but no as soon

Thanks for the info on the SD70MAC - a fine idea, including non-standard rolling stock. So often I have given up on an activity because the rolling stock can't be found after a few months - one can edit the activity, but that seems like overkill. Might as well start doing my own, though I have on occasion subsituted a favorite consist for the user train I haven't been brave enough to try it for the AI consists. When I unpacked "Morning Intermodal" acitivity, it didn't give me a choice. I could overwrite the existing consists or not install the activity - at least I think that is what happened. Assume if I say "no" the activity wouldn't install, but maybe not ??? I figured you had checked the consists thoroughly so I went ahead. Before running the activity I checked it via ConBuilder and it had a clean bill of health. I think maybe the Tsunpack routine would overwrite a consist of the same name regardless, but that also is spec on my part.I'll try another default activity tomorrow (later today actually) - then move on to authored activities, this is very much like an early Christmas. Highest possible marks for including non-standard rolling stock, its the best idea since sliced bread or canned beer. Bing

RE: Xtrack Marias3.1 still crash but no as soon

You should be able to refuse installation of any duplicate file and the activity installer will continue. To prove it, reinstall one you just installed. All the files should trigger the message, not just consists, and you should be able to say no to any one of them.As for the rolling stock, there are two sides to that. Including all of the stock more than doubled the size of the upload. I could have fit just the route parts in about 38 MB. On the other hand, now you have just what you need. I also assume that some (many?) people already have some of the rolling stock, so for them this is a duplicate effort. Still, I thought it was a good idea and wish more activity designers would include the non standard stock when they package an activity. Other than the size issue, it makes life a lot easier. I really had to look around for a couple of these!Bob Siederer

Note that special attention needs to be paid to the Maintenance EOD activity for, as it says in the readme, As packaged, some of the "standard" consists included with MSTS are modified by this activity. As long as you answer "no", none of these consists will be changed.Bill

RE: Xtrack Marias3.1 still crash but no as soon

Well, sure, once the files are installed if you go back and attempt to write over them the message will appear. We would expect as much. It is when the activity is being installed new to the particular route there is a concern - if I DON"T overwrite, will the revised default activity work or not? If I overwrite the consists files, will they work with other routes?I backed up the consist folder, installed a Marias31 "Default" activity, the Cutbank Grain item. I allowed the consist files to be overwritten, then compared the old and new consists side by side. They appear to be identical in every way. When I find one that isn't the same AND interferes with operation of other routes I will post a message (you mean there are other US routes in TS?). I see no harm in replacing a file with an exact copy which carries a more recent creation date.As to including the non-standard rolling stock, repeat: Best idea since sliced bread or canned beer. If I don't check for an existing piece of equipment which I might have tweaked, shame on me. I'll bet you had a time finding some of the equipment. That has happened to me several times. Then, when I did find the stuff it had been changed in one way or another, meaning the activity itself had to be rewritten or discarded. Sometimes revising the activity file doesn't work either. When I have more experience with writing and revising activity files, it will (I hope) be different. For now, everything I need to run and enjoy Marias31 has been provided. We never had it so good.Bing
