well, whenever I delete an engine I delete all of it folder and consist and activites. But when I load Train Simulator an error occurs that says: could not find file "something.wag" or "something.eng" when I deleted it!!! how does it know the file still exists and give me and error message? yes the file has the correct name.
Yep, Route Control will identify it for you. But the short answer is that you still have a Consist file that includes the engine in question. (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\TRAINS\CONSISTS)When MSTS loads it checks Every consist for the cars and engines, whether you are using that particular consist or not. P.S. If you have never used Route Control or Conbuilder, you will probably be overwhelmed by the errors and/or missing files. Cleaning it all up will be worth it in the long run. Good luck. Kyle H
Hi,To give more information: To check erronous consists, you can use: 1. Route Control Light. 2. ConBuilder 3. Route RiterWith Route Control, you have to use another program to replace the content of the consist. The program moves erronous consist to a seperate folder. When you want to use the consist, you have to move it manually from that folder and use another program to replace rolling stock in the consist. With ConBuilder, you can use ConBuilder to edit the consist or delete it. Little bit tricky to do it as you cannot go directly from the error window to the editor window. With Route Riter, you have the ability to swap the loco's and cars in a consist. The program list all the rolling stock you have and offers you to replace the stuff.Dick van den Hoven
The problem is MSTS is a case study in bad programming. I mean how hard could it have been to just shorten the train by one for each missing piece of rolling stock? And what in the hell possessed them to read every consist file at start up, no wonder it takes so long to load. They need some programming tips...
1) Don't make the user look stupid 2) Don't stop the proceedings with idiocy 3) If it's worth asking the user, it's worth the program remembering 4) It's not your fault, but it's your responsibility 5) Make everything reversible 6) No matter how cool your interface is, less of it would be better 7) Users don't make mistakes
