Can't reinstall train sim!

hi! today's drama de jour with Matt: I can't reinstall trainsim! After having a severe case of the great white void that somehow only affected the default routes; I've been trying to reinstall train simulator. But when I click reinstall, it stays in Initializing setup engine! any way I can fix train simulator so that I can run the default routes?thanks!-Creating Pac-Man comics for the humorless people out therethe search for the perfect route continues!

To re-install MSTS delete TRAIN.EXE and LAUNCHER.EXE first.After the MSTS re-install, re-install the APRIL Update and let the MSTS Trouble Shooter "Change Video Driver".

It has been mentioned countless times that unless you DELETE or RENAME these programs the MSTS Installer thinks you already have it installed and does not bother to do so again. I did it that way a number of times, installing it into another drive, which then becomes the active MSTS Install.Messing with the Registry ? Definitely not.Go into Settings and "REMOVE Program" = Uninstall MSTS completely if you wish, this will clear the Registry for you safely. Doing it the above way updates the Registry with another Drive letter for it if so chosen.The APRIL MSTS Update can Downloaded from the MS TrainSim Web site.

This probably won't help but is something to try if all else fails. Delete your TrainSim registry entrys and try again. A free program like RegCleaner makes this easy to do.I could not reinstall into a different drive once, until I did this.Good luck, Bill

The problem is, there are loads of ways to reinstall, depending on PC setup. I doubt there is anyone here who has an identical setup to anyone else, so specific advice becomes meaningless. Regcleaner is a very good way to delete registry entries, because it is recoverable.In general a total MSTS reinstall, requires untinstalling, deleting everything that still gets left, and deleting registry stuff as well. Having said that, you should try first to find out the cause of the problem, uninstalling the whole of MSTS should be a last resort.David

Somewhere in the install on CD 1 there is a box "Reinstall existing files" or something similar. I have used this several times to get Train Simulator running again. If you have the updates for V 1.2, tsunpack, and other fixes these will have to be reinstalled. This does not delete your installed routes or consists but will reinstall the default routes and default consists.Nascarphan

Tricky isn't it?I had a similar problem with the recent SD40,Class 50 addons,after "uninstalling" them.They wouldn't reinstall.I only got them back by using the "Repair"file option on the installer options.Looks like a similar problem here perhaps.
