The dash 9 is a freight loco and as such is geared lower (65Mph) than a passenger loco.
(electric) The passenger GG1's were geared for 100Mph.
The early F7's had gearing up to 120MphDerek

RE: trivia about top speed

Hmm. Well if you want to get technical, should the amtrak jet train get into the sim, that would be the fastest. HOWEVER, some time ago, I downloaded a trainset from some website. I still have the thing even though I have no clue what it is. The name is simply the "Blue Arrow" some chinese trainset.I have gotten a Loco,Trailing driver trainset up to 300mph on the nec more than once. That thing LOVES to run fast. Even the usual 5 car train runs 200+ mph under one loco.

RE: trivia about top speed

There was a Dash-9 in the library that was souped up to really move out. Can't remember the filename, but it was early on in the life of MSTS.Lawrence

RE: trivia about top speed

I remember that thing. While back (before I got a new comp) I messed with the eurostar's eng file. Topped out around 2000mph. At one point, it moved so fast the wheels dissappeared.

RE: trivia about top speed

Let me add to that. The engine's weight was 4 tons. The wagons were .01 tons and the friction values for them was pretty much nonexistant. The engine had to have a good friction value, because without them it wouldn't move.

RE: trivia about top speed

I think the fastest Diesel locomotive is the supercharged Dash 9. There was a update not long ago and the update was a reskin to add NASA logos! I think the fastest Electric train is the TGV325 train. But that's payware. So I think the Eurostar is the second fastest.------My favourite LUL train------Trivia about top speed – image 3

This is Notting Hill Gate......Change for Circle...and District lines...............This train terminates at Hainault...via Newbury Park......(Don't you just love the SONIA? If you haven't heard it, play BVE Central line to hear it!)

Bleh.I jacked an engine file up so far, that i went from Whitefish to Shelby in 1 frame; then blasted off the route entirely; effectively crashing MSTS..Top Speed? Couldn't calculate it apparently.. ( 0 mph )It refused to load that engine file with those settings again..I'm trying to reproduce a 'lightspeed' train, so far im only able to get the loco up to 6500mph..

RE: trivia about top speed

The fastest diesel engine in service is the British Class 43 InterCity 125 that has been in service in the UK for over 20 years.
It's maximum commercial speed is 125mph but it also holds the world diesel speed record at 148mph.....
I think a model was on this site quite a while ago but I have no idea about the file name.
As you said ..just trivia about speed!!!!

RE: trivia about top speed

But word on the street is that the Russians have gone faster with their TEP80 diesel...In true British form one might point out that it was not an officially certified record, so the official fastest diesel train on earth is indeed British.cheers
