MSTS Keeps Crashing

well i need some help i have installed and reinstalled all day long
took out all addons then did a reformat of the drive then reinstalled everything to know avail:( route control, conbuilder,and routeriter all show no missing .engs, .wags, consists, services or paths i'm at a loss as to what the problem is the sim crashes on loading could there be an error in a nother folder? the only routes i had were the blueridge sub, ohio wv build 10, khp, and cajon = all the defaults. i start the sim then get to the load screen ( the 1st one) then the screen goes black wich i know is normal then it crashes me to the desktop then i get a blue screen sometimes saying
'the system has recoverd from a serious error' 3 times so far so i'm
at a loos as to the problem. loads of thanx to all those that can help me

181 loco's
427 wagons
85 activities
317 services
408 consists
2 addon routes installed (blueridge and kicking horse pass)i unstalled owv b10 and cajon thx again Gregory

I think it might your video card setting or your sound card. Next time it crashes, try to write down what the error message is and maybe we can help. We might need more info and maybe the specs of your pc and OS would help.Ken

Does this happen only on MSTS, or on other (DX)games as-well?
did you try reinstall directx/agp drivers/check the HD?
what OS? please give some more spec'sGreets Henk.

im using a sony vaio laptop grx520
p4 1.6
256 mb ddr sdram
32 mb ati mobility radeon with ddr sdram
30 gig hdd
not shur about sound card
windows xp home
it does run if i remove the whole trainset folder so i think somthing may be worng in there. even with no defaults it loads

You are going to have to go step by step on this. There was no need to reformat the hard drive. First of all uninstall MSTS. Sounds easy but it will leave a load of junk behind, so delete whats left, including any directory stuff. Make sure you have removed everything.Now install MSTS. Test to see if it works. Then add any additions one by one and test them. Its the only way to go.David

well i give up nothing i do helps msts still crashes every siingle time on startup rout control routeriter and activitie analyses show no problems oh well

Hi Jester116,Did you say the MSTS worked before you format the drive? I saw a post a while back from another person saying the MSTS does not work well on laptops. I'm not trying to discourage you but, that's I saw before. Do you have a desktop that you can run MSTS on?

i'v run msts for about a year with no problems on my laptop.i'll just keep trying i'll find the problem

You say that you have run MSTS on your Laptop for a year without problems ? Not on this one then ?Starting your Laptop from COLD and before running MSTS, have a look into your Task Manager and tell us what is running in there with a Screenshot posted here.RUN dxdiag. What version of DX is installed ?Are GRAPHICS managed by an on-the-Motherboard Chip ? Not much room for decent Gaming Graphics Cards inside most Laptops, needing dispersal of the heat they produce !Any other Games on your Laptop ? Working o.k. ?You re-formatted your Laptop's Hard Drive !! A brave thing to do at the best of times. Re-installed WIN-XP from what CD, the manufacturer's "Recovery CD" or a Proper OEM WIN-XP CD with all the necessary drivers for all the hardware inside the Laptop on it.If the former, you need to establish what drivers your hardware needs and Download them from the appropriate Manufacturer's Web Sites. The "Recovery CDs" do not necessarily have the latest versions, BIOS, MoBo Drivers and it's Graphics, etc.Finally, after Re-Installing MSTS, make sure it's April UPDATE is being installed. A good idea is to let the MSTS TROUBLE SHOOTER identify the Graphics Driver which is installed, just in case MSTS didn't get the message during installation.

thx ottodad for the info i reinstalled the sim and so far its working fine i guess it just didnt want to work the other day my 30 gig drive is partitioned msts is on d: all by its self. this is a new machine with a faster processer more ram and an ati video chip with 32 mb ddr sdram thanks for the time to help me Gregory
