missing files in Stooge Freight #1"stoogefreight1.act – image 2

Yeah, I downloaded that one too. In the past, every time I have tried a downloaded activity for the Ohio Rail route, I have been sorry I did. Every single one of them introduced a new round of "Send/Don't Send" and "error in train database" messages. One time I downloaded an "Activity Pack" and it took me four hours to clean up the mess it made of my system.Yet people rave about this route, and say it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. So when I saw this activity, and it said "requires one non-default car," I thought this was going to be my big chance to see what all the buzz was about. So I downloaded the activity, downloaded the 'woodchipper' car, and ran ConBuilder to make sure everything was OK. Blam! 38 errors, missing files up the yinyang, same thing that happens every time.I guess it's just a secret club, and I don't have the secret decoder ring. What I do know is that I give up. After the one last night, I think I have learned my lesson on activities for that route. No more for me.</rant>

It seems mister "Patrick" (the maker of this activity) assumed, that anyone who has OhioRR10,
also have the complete rollingstock for Ohio.
Wrong off-course, in computer games never assume anything...
On the other hand, if you have OhioRR you should have those too IMHOGreets HenkGreets Henk.

Bob and TSJ, seems you have run into a common problem - everyone wants to upload good activities, but they compose them with the stuff they already have, or have made themselves, forgetting what's default and what's download; what we might or might not have. Thanks for the warning, all. I downloaded that activity today, but haven't tried it yet. I guess I won't for a while now.
I can think of some solutions, but they are all pretty kludgy so I won't mention them here. There are many interesting activities posted here for the Ohio Rail, but they involve so many downloads of rolling stock that I am avoiding them. I can't "enjoy Rich Garber's Ohio Rail" if I have to spend more time downloading and installing stock than driving a train! Up goes the consist count, too.

RE: missing files in Stooge Freight #1

Doing activities for upload is a balancing act. The new stuff available in the DL Library is soooo much better that the default. I am 95% complete with the 10 activity package that I am working on. It started with almost 80 downloads, way to many. I have pared it down to less than 50, in other words about 5 per activity. To me that is not a bad number. Even when I had 56k, I would dl as many as I needed to do an activity. But it is hard to do SP, SF, and UP in the late 80's without downloads.

Kelley gave me permission to repackage his cars into packs. That is nice in that I can repackage say 5 CNW cars into a pack, redoing the ace file name and editing the s file to point to the new ace file name. It also save space with less folders and only one truck ace file for how many cars. I have also offered to help him the next time he uploads to create packs instead of single cars uploads. I think this is the way to go. I have yet to ask Kelley that as I do the repackaging if he will/will not leave the single car uploads here. Kelley, if you read this please let me know. Now if Steve Spivey and a couple of the other prolific skinners would do this also it would be great. I would be willing to help any of them with this.I will probably start deleting a lot of the single cars that I have on my system to help with controlling cars I use in activities. I do have a lot of stuff that I do not use and maybe never use. Kevin Arceneaux

RE: missing files in Stooge Freight #1

I think the packaged cars are a good idea, especially where multiple road #s of the same type of car are involved, but single car downloads of at least one of those cars should probably be available too. For some of us, a 40 car string of hoppers with the same road # is no problem. For others, it is...I'm currently running 2 installations of MSTS on the same unpartitioned 80MB external HD. One is strictly default consists, plus Sand Patch, KHP, and the OHRR and Retro Metro downloads. The other has a variety of routes that I like to explore with consists of my own creation. I like to download and try out a variety of rolling stock. Most I keep, some get set aside, and a few pieces have been deleted for one reason or another.Tim

RE: missing files in Stooge Freight #1

My fault, everyone. I forgot to mention that the WV&O rollingstock is required for this activity. I won't forget next time!
