I've installed Rich Garber's Ohio RR build10 and now none of the Marias Pass or the V3 of the Marias Pass will work.I have 865 consist files. All other routes do work.I can't honestly say that adding the new route caused the problem. But after installing that's when the problems appeared.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

also remove the activity's you don't play any more,
in the folders activity/services & traffic (keep the paths)
865 consist!! how long does it take for MSTS to start up? an Hour ??Greets Henk.

Do you get an error message? A dialog box with a path name to some folder/directory naming a route, piece of rolling stock, etc? The Send/Don't Send dialog? If you could be more specific about the problem I'm sure someone here could help.

RE: Game Crash

If you are getting a message along the lines of 'parent point indicator doesn't exist' then it is definitely a case of too many consists. Some of those you have are probably consists installed when a loco was downloaded and you don't really need them. You can always thin them out with route riter which will move those not needed to a 'spare consist' folder or go the whole hog and thin out consists and rolling stock using my method http://www.train-sim.com/cgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=11846&forum=DCForumID3This also makes MSTS load a lot fasterBill

RE: Game Crash

Bill - I checked your link and realized I had read it when it was first posted. Maybe, if Carlos Gomes is still around he could address this problem. His excellent ConBuilder can identify consists associated with particular activities. Is it such a big step to ID consists NOT associated with activities? I don't know, just a thought from someone who is not a programmer, but it would be a great tool to have.

Unused consists

Route Riter (freeware) can identify unused consists - you have to look hard through all the features to find it, but it is there. It helped me get rid of more than 150 consists that were not connected to activities - also unused services and paths and traffic. very handy.Cheers,

RE: Unused consists

Hawk I've been at this for some time now(since its release) and I've had way more than the number of consist that I have now and didn't have any problems. No it doesn't take more than an hour to load. There are no error messages at all.I've been playing this sim every since it's release and this is a first. At one point I had close to 1200 consists and it never crashed so I don't think 856 is too many.I do have route rite and will run it to see what the problem is.

Reminder to myself:
do not post/reply early in the morning, you’re way to grumpy at that time!! So now that’s out of the way, lets go on…
You do realize that lots of route also have lots of activity’s
and those carry all their own hidden consists* ?
Consists in train folders aren't helping either ?
Neither does .eng/.wag/.sd pointing at the wrong file/folder,
so before i start a new route/activity i always check it with both route-riter & con-builder & ref-cleaner for missing files.
The more consists the bigger the change something goes wrong ?What I can’t understand is, that of all the route’s I installed, OhioRR is one of the easiest
and one of the safest to install, but it comes with loads of activity’s so my immediate guess was, way to much consists….
Sorry if that is not the case.*asmith46; this is ok then??
Greets Henk.

RE: Game Crash

I don't have a problem with either OVR or the Maria's Pass activities, because I have less consist files in my folder than most of you do to save space

RE: Game Crash

I removed about 200 consist that are not being used and that did the trick. One thing I've come to realize is that this sim is very finicky.Even with route riter it saids that I have wags missing and that it will cause problems. However the files that it says are missing aren't missing at all and I can run the route with no problems.Hell I don't know.
