New Haven fans, get ready to drool – image 5NH logo on front looks a lot better now - I almost forgot that the FL9s had flush front doors, and not the extruded ones - that was what was limiting the size of the logo!Take care, Shoskins!Kurt

RE: New Haven fans, get ready to drool.

That would be perfect for the Amtrak rebuilds and the FL9AC. The problem is the headlights.
New Haven fans, get ready to drool – image 6
The headlights are positioned wrong but otherwise, very good. You have a long project ahead of you. Besides what you have made, there is Penn Central black and black with a white nose, Conrail, MTA Central, ConnDot (similar but rebuilt locomotives), Amtrak old and rebuilt (along with 489 in Phase II), Metro North red and blue including FL9ACs and stealth along with New York Central, and Long Island Railroad's FL9ACs. All of these except Long Island Railroad, Metro North stealth, Metro North ACs, New York Central, and rebuilt Amtrak locomotives had Hancock Air Chime. The all Metro North, Long Island Railroad, ConnDot, and Amtrak FL9s were given K5LA horns.Beware of the irregularities. That skin will ONLY work for 2000. All others had an extra serif on the N on the front. 2033 had no black moustache. ALL AMTRAK FL9s ARE DIFFERENT! Good luck!

RE: New Haven fans, get ready to drool.

You might also want to check you road numbers because I know a lot of the FL-9s used to have an extra serif on the N on the nose only. For some reason GM liked to add the extra "foot" on the New Haven "N's" although I don't know why and would recommend you check in with the New Haven historical society http://www.nhrhta.org/ as they have excellent resources and materials. And between you and me, make them dirty, because that is how I remember them flying through Canton Junction when I was a kid.NYNE

Actually, very few of the FL-9's did have a "correct" NH logo. They all came from the EMD factory with that extra "foot" on the lower right corner of the "N" on the noses; the side logos were correct on all the EMD's. The ones without it were repainted by the New Haven at one time or another during their careers. (The 2007 went back to EMD in the mid-1960's and came back completely repainted WITH the extra foot on the "N"!!)There were a couple other variations -- one or two delivered without the "whiskers", one had the orange pointed up so the black under the whiskers disappeared, things like that. I'd suggest the book 'Diesels to Park Avenue" which has quite a few pictures of all the variations. At least New Haven didn't remove any of the Hancock whistles.....Metro-North and Amtrak took care of that!

RE: New Haven fans, get ready to drool.

Leave it as 6620. Then we can have a real Shore Line East consist. Keep the extra serif, just renumber it to 6620 and add the ConnDot logo on the side, like the one on the NALW P32. Then we'll have a perfect ConnDot F7A for Shore Line East! We've already got the shorliner cars for it.

RE: New Haven fans, get ready to drool.

Thanks! I renumbered it to 2023 based on this web page http://railnutternews2.home.att.net/Streamliners.html
which says 2023 was also a F7. Based on photos I have seen, the number 6 in this model does'nt match the actual. I also don't have a font currently to do it justice. The ariel fonts 2 0 and 3 characters are a close match. I still have the original 6620 number texture so I'll make a version of that also. These are all just minor modifications to existing textures by Phil Vollono, So I would atleast need his permission to distribute. Which I don't think would be a problem since he states it's public domain. 3DTrains reskinning policy though clearly state works must be original and not those of theirs or others. So as far as distribution goes there is a bit of grey area there, so I would have to check with them also first.

I have a REALLY GOOD picture of Metro North 2003 in Danbury, but I can't seem to find it. It'll turn up.

RE: New Haven fans, get ready to drool.

It looks good Kurt, but one question....didn't FL-9's have odd trucks? Or at least some of them?Or is it just a figment of my wacky imagination?Dan

I am committed to restoring the existing system to a state of good repair as a first priority. I am committed to an efficient, high-quality service. I will ask that all of us review processes, work methods and procedures to increase efficiency. We will not be self-sufficient, but we must increase our cost recovery.

RE: New Haven fans, get ready to drool.

Their configuration was B-A1A, and they did not use the same trucks as the other F-units, but that was to facilitate third rail operation.
