Well searching through the forums I noticed that Cajon Pass is about to go on sale for $25 and this route will be everything that the original was but for $25 instead of $38 you only miss the F7 units by 3dtrains. At first I was a little disappointed to find this out as I had originally paid $38 for the route, the original route included the F7’s and added to a variety activities, however I soon realized that the F units that came with Cajon Pass would not entitle me to any upgrades from 3Dtrains as far as new units went.
So what I’d like to know is how come after spending and extra $15 that obviously went into 3Dtrains pocket, I’m not entitled to any upgrades to my F units. I didn’t mind spending the extra on the route as it gave me an extremely good value route for the price, but if the extra went to 3Dtrains I would like to know why 3Dtrains is treating those people that purchased the route like 2nd class citizens. To me 3Dtrains and 3dtrainsTuff have always provided good value for their products but I still can’t help but feel left out that 3Dtrains would not support me, even though I paid the extra for the route that included their models. If the difference in price is the $15 extra for the F7’s and I would have got the new units plus the support I would definitely have waited for the two.
However having said that the team as 3DTrainstuff put together one hell of a route and it’s sure to knock any of your existing routes out of the water. Definitely worth the $25 fee for it.Take care,
Jim Stone.

First, if you paid $38.00 for the original package, and now it's going down to $25.00 -- that's only $13.00 difference. Not $15.00. If we're gonna nitpick, let's nitpick accurately! Secondly, how many other products have you bought in your lifetime at full, regular price, only to find them a few months later at half the price?Uh, MSTS, for one, I'd bet!! I'd say a good portion of MSTS enthusiasts ran out and bought it the day it came out at full price -- what was it, $47.95? -- and then a few months later, those of us who waited, bought the same exact package, etc., for as low as $19.95 (like I did...) Does that entitle those who paid full price for more free technical support? Does that entitle those who paid full price to more free upgrades?I'd say just sit back, relax, enjoy what you've got, and don't lose sleep over something you bought months ago and now is cheaper. I gave up doing that years ago....

Great advice, for everything. Can you imagine how we'd be if we did that with COMPUTERS, never mind the little stuff?Ted

RE: The New Cajon Pass Route

Hi Jim,The F's aren't the only things being removed from Cajon. The items I contributed also consisted of modeling 75%+ of the SD70M's and SD75M's, the San Bernardino station, the ATSF passenger cars, the ATSF and SP cabooses, and several other odds and ends. All of these (including the SD units, but none of the rolling stock) will be recreated by Brad and crew.>extra $15 that obviously went into 3Dtrains pocketFWIW, the amount to me was less than $4 for each sold. You do the math.Cajon is already a big package even without my items - the removal of the above (and the lowering of the price) allows Brad to offer Cajon to more folks. The F's (and other items) were but a small feature to an already great package. Cheers!

I think all of us should be grateful for the outstanding work that is done by both companies. It is not uncommon for two groups to go their separate ways and it is normally for the better. We have lost nothing, both groups are still around, continuing to produce the excellent products that they have been with more on the horizon it seems.Best wishes to both of you through the holidays and the coming year.

RE: The New Cajon Pass Route

Brad lowers the price, and you comaplin about it? So what. I paid $34 for mine, as many others did, just like I paid $49 for my MSTS when it came out. There are a lot of people out there who want the route, but simply can't afford to shell out $38 for it. Brad is trying to cater to those folks as well, becasue in his love of trains, he also wants others to be able to enjoy it as well.I find it hard to believe that this is the first time you have bought something, and then it was rediced in price later, and BTW, the product was still the same. Here they took out the F stuff and reduced the price.ChrisFestival of Trains, NRHS 2003 Convention, June 2003, Baltimore Md. www.borail.org www.nrhs.com

RE: The New Cajon Pass Route

Hi guys,
Sorry, didn't mean to sound like I was complaining about the price drop, it's definately a good thing. I got the route for $38 and have enjoyed every minute of it. What I was trying to say, and I guess I said it rather badly was that $25 for the route is definately worth it. It also makes sense to do it this way, if I don't want the F units I don't have to pay the extra $$$ for them, however if I do want the F units I could buy them directly from 3DTrains and this way I would continue to get upgrades for them, which I don't with the F units that were shipped with Cajon.
As for Tehachapi, no I only have the original version, I'm anxiously awaiting the release of version 2. Once I have version 2 in my hands I'll probably order the updated F units then.Take care,
Jim Stone.

RE: The New Cajon Pass Route

Unfortunately, neither 3D Trains and 3DTS had a Crystal Ball to see into the future. I'm pretty sure there was no intention on their part to do what they deemed necessary. The Cajon Pass Route is still the same minus stock from 3D Trains. 3D Trains still produces excellent add-ons as usual. The good news is that both sides are being fair...in my opinion, and nothing "bad" should reflect on both parties. Kip

RE: The New Cajon Pass Route

So let me get this straight. 3DT is opting out of the project for future sales, so Brad lowers the price to 25.00$ So in actuality, 3DT's contribution was worth 13.00$ instead of less than 4.00$ per copy sold. Does that sound fair to anyone?

RE: The New Cajon Pass Route

It is none of our business what the arragements were between the two companies. Yes, 3DT's did the units, but 3DTS was still responsile for utilizing them. 3DTS did the activities, not 3DT's. So whether or not is fair, again, it is none of our business.Kevin Arceneaux

RE: The New Cajon Pass Route

I agree with Kevin, the arrangement made between 3dTrainstuff and 3dTrains is no one's business but theirs. But, also for $13 what 3dTrains models you get is one helluva bargain considering the fact that a 4-unit F-7 set goes for $10 a copy. You got SP, AT&SF, F-7s, SP and AT&SF GP-20s, passenger cars and other stuff for $13 (of which Marc got $4?). Up-grades? You made out like bandit as it is. My advice to you would be to buy any F-7 set that suits your fancy from 3dTrains (IMHO the best models available anywhere). The bottom line is this is a 3dTrainstuff product and as such, they alone are responsibe for packaging, and pricing, of the product. Jeff

RE: The New Cajon Pass Route

I might as well jump in line here...It is none of our concern what goes on with 3DT, or 3DTS and I wish I could say I am surprised at how some here think it is thier concern, but we are on a forum afterall.Get a life people, and enjoy the add-ons. Keep on complaining about this and that, and before long, we might not have people like 3DTS putting stuff out. Brad and crew are not exactly rolling in the dough over in Fallbrook, he does this partly for the enjoyment and sharing with others. Enjoy it for god sakes!ChrisFestival of Trains, NRHS 2003 Convention, June 2003, Baltimore Md. www.borail.org www.nrhs.com

RE: The New Cajon Pass Route

Hi folks,The price is now $25 (USD) on the Cajon Pass route (version 1.6) as well as the UK Branch Collection. And the SD70Ms and SD75Ms, have now been completely remodelled by Patrick Mahoney and myself. Also keep in mind that the cabs for those units were done by Ken Mayfield, all of the skins were done by Ken Martello (except the Build America logo which Patrick has redone), the sounds are by John Greenstone, and the SD70M was an original model of mine. All of the units are lower in poly count and now feature better looking snow plows, mu hoses, and correct wheel sizes (no offense intended Marc, I know we were rushed at the time). I will also put up patch 1.5 on our server within the next week so that everyone that wants too, can update theirs from previous versions. As for Marc's FUnits, they are indeed very beautiful, however, we were unable to support them as they are not ours, and we only had a few activities for them as well. I'm sure Marc will some day release an activity addon for Cajon Pass that will feature his beautiful Superchief and El Capitan trainsets as they do look right at home on our route and they will be missed.Keep em on the high iron!

RE: The New Cajon Pass Route

Hi Kevin,The forums here at Train-Sim are much better than anything we could do from our site, there is much more information here, and is why we support what Nels and his crew are doing here through some banner advertising which not only helps us but also helps pay for the bandwidth of the forums and download library here.Don't get me wrong, customer support is very important to us and is why we do have a phone number posted on our web site that people can actually call (during business hours) and get their questions answered by one of the team members or myself in person. So you see, having our own forum is not as important to us, as it might be for a company that doesn't offer customer support over the phone or do not have a phone. However,we are looking at setting up an online IRC channel where people can get live support from us in real time, look for something like that hopefully after the first of the year..and there is of course email, which we do help people with stuff over that medium as well Anyhow, keep em on the high iron!
