Please HelpAfter a year of running, started having problems with Train Sim (error messages, lockups, etc).Copied all my add-on routes, etc, to CDs. Unistalled TS. Deleted TS directory. Reinstalled TS. Copied back into Routes Directory all my add-on routes. Now I have NO terrain, (please see pictures posted in "Great White Void" post below. What went wrong? Sniper, Ottodad, Bob Hahn, any help? Thanks BJ
What about the MSTS routes like Marias? Do they have terrain?Try downloading some route -- PO&N v6 would be good, because it's a small download -- and see if that works. You need to find out whether your problem is MSTS itself, or the backup copies you made of your routes. How did you go about making the backups? Is there any chance that the filenames got corrupted, say, by getting turned into old-style "8.3" names like filena~1.trk? That can happen when moving things to CDs. Open up the TERRTEX directory for any of your add-on routes and see what the filenames look like. There should be stuff in there like "browndirt.ace". If you have "BROWND~1.ace", your CD copy utility hosed you up.
I've never had a CD burner, but one thing I heard was they sometimes set the read-only attributes on, and trainsim don't like files with read-only attributes, so you have to select all the files and click on "properties", then turn off the read-only.Primary cause of the great white void is something missing/corrupted in the \TD folder, those files are the actual quad tree.Bob's suggestion might be it too, if you have \RouteName\TD\-00025~1.td instead of -00025+00028.td, for example, or if the td_idx.dat file has been converted to regular text instead of unicode, that would screw up the quad tree.Short of downloading and installing again, I don't think there's an easy way to fix it unless you have a good backup of the \TD folder someplace. If ALL routes including the newly re-installed default routes are doing it, then something else is at fault, as much as you don't want to hear this uninstalling and reinstalling the whole smash again might be the only cure.
Well... Thank you for the quick replies. The default routes work fine. The files were not converted to the DOS 8.3 format, but it looks the files were converted to "archive". Its either that or the td-idx files were converted to text. I don't know a way to fix that. Well, loks like I get to try to find many, many routes again. Thanks guys.
