how do I make the alerter sound in the new SD40-2 and the old GP38? Just want to know because I have the emergency brakes apply on me all the time

I suspect only by fiddling with the eng file. It is missing a section called Vigilance Monitor which I suspect is what controls it. Most of the GP's I have looked at don't have it either which begs the question as to whether there is a vigilance monitor on the GP's. Not being overly familiar with US engines I cannot help you on that point.Bill

Not being overly familiar >with US engines I cannot help you on that point. It depends on which particular railroad one is dealign with, whether they had "vigilance monitors" (alertors). The Long Island Rail Road did have them in their GP38-2's.....but I can't think of any other road (haven't had much cab experience in GP's...only in F40's and F59's in recent years).
The problem could be with your Overspeed Monitor. It sounds to me like you are hitting a predetermined speed as defined in the Overspeed Monitor and getting an emergency brake application. That speed would probably be something just a bit higher than the Max velocity of the locomotive. (Assuming its set up properly) You don't usually get an alerter sound when you approach the max speed.M.R.
Are you saying you get the alerter in the GP38 as I certainly don't and as I stated in hte earlier post as far as I can see from the eng file there is no provision for it.Bill
I should've been more specific on the SD40-2 no sound comes off and I rely on it because sometimes I forget to reset it. The rest is fine and I'll copy thopse things
