in the for what its worth catagory, dx8.1b direct sound is still in the debug mode. unless it's in the way this new hard drive was built, looks like microsoft still has not moved the slider and corrected this little problem or error or however you want to put it. built this hd by loading dx7 from a cd, install dx8.0a next after finding it on another cd, then finally d/l 8.1b, ~13.5mb, took well over an hour at my blinding fast dialup speed. did not run the applet to display this setting until after loading 8.1b. not slamming microsoft here, just reporting what i've observed on my machine today.
