My MSTS folder contains 7.72 Gigabytes in 1,315 Folders containing 84,442 files--and that's before Nels posts today's uploads. Partition "O" contains another 2.03 Gigabytes representing my zip archives, many of which are not yet installed. And then there are the support programs in other areas outside of Trainsim, such as Demex, USAPhotomaps, (both of which can harbor significantly sized files. I have 160 Gigabytes of HD, and want to add more but need a tower with a bigger power supply and more case fans. 5.5 currently in use, with 25gb+ in archives (only 1gb+/- new and not yet installed). Me thinks some house keeping is needed. Cheers! Marc - 3DTrains http://www.3dtrains.comPro Series Super Packs
>I have 160 Gigabytes of HD, and want to add more but need a >tower with a bigger power supply and more case fans. Yes, don't be like me,I bought a 120 Gig HD and can't run MSTS with it because not enough wattage between the 3d card and the hard drive going, anyway, my MSTS folder is 5.58Gigs, sitting & waiting for the 120GB drive to be transferred to a new rig.. My MSTS folder just turned 10 GB the other day. I have 8.03 GB for route(29 routes) and 1.72 GB for trainset. I probably have about 50 to 100 MB in ulitilies like engmod, routeriter, and etc. This is on the 40 GB HD. I probably will get 120 GB HD next spring before I fill up. However, I plan to elimate some routes that I don't longer use and save it to disk.Ken "United We Stand." "Love America or Get Out!"

This does not include downloads. They are on CD's as well as 2 partitions on one server and a full partition on this machine. The creation date reflects a wipe and redo. Man I love huge hard drives!!!
I have 4,36 GB of MSTS, which is, together with My Documents, the sole reason why the C partition exists. 4,36 GB (4,907,851,776 bytes), 47.874 files in 779 folders, and growing. Note that I have MSTSMiles and Conbuilder installed in a subfolder in the root of C:/Microsoft Train Simulator.

Less than 400MB, eh ... hmmmmmmmmm .......Well, currently mine is 370MB. That is a fresh install with no routes, and all default equipment and consists deleted.Normally my folder is quite large, but I never really keep track. I bought a 40gig hard drive that I dedicated to MSTS, TSM and all of my project files so as long as it isn't full, I don't care. However, after Christmas MSTS is gettin a new 80gig 8MB cache drive all for itself. Ray
I don't think anyone MSTS folder can be 400MB. One route is already 500MB plus the rolling stock about 50MB.-------------My favourite LUL train-------------
Stoop,The poll didn't seem very well thought-out, did it? I have well over 7 gigs in mine, and I don't download all that much.Anyone want to lay odds that 4 Gb or more is the only category that gets checked?PaulS
I got 3.08 GB, and I haven't downloaded much at all; since my last HDD wipe..Before that..It was also close to 7GB; with a few more addons I wanted...The optimal MSTS size, in my view, with be about 15GB..
Actually I didn't intend to poll but just simply wanted to test out how the response is like.In fact I think replying with exact folder size would be the best. Just like what I did back at Crotrainz.
5.77GB for me. Then there's the other folder used for building stuff (so far, just repaints and the like,) downloads and temp storage... all this on a K6/2-450 with a 40Gig drive.

I refuse to let my MSTS folder get over 5. Every week I do a complete un-install of MSTS Scan Disk DeFrag re-Install of MSTS ( of course my Train-set folder is backed up every time )Anyways on re-installation I do the full MSTS install, add Sky Conductor - Kicking Horse Pass & Cajon. then I usually will install 1 ot 2 3rd party routes that I feel like running !!Sound stupid, but the bigger the folder is the worse it seems to run. And for the record the Scan Disk / Defrag makes a HUGE difference in load times etc..So NO I don't think that I am being overly " picky " about this proceedure !! Tim Kent "Power for You"
In addition to Scandisk/Defrag; run Norton Utilities, and select 'WinDoctor'...I almost guarantee you that you have errors that you don't even know about

A small amount of space on disk is wasted out, due to the fact that space is allocated in fixed size units, so the last units is always empty to some extent. NTFS filesystem available with 2000 and XP mitigate this problem because they use smaller clusters than FAT, so less space is wasted. In my case, I have the opposite: space is saved, instead of wasted.4,78 GB (5.138.317.837 bytes) Size 3,20 GB (3.436.920.005 bytes) Size on diskThis is a save of 1/3! Which of the two sizes should I declare? Umberto
