How do people here complete activities that start out in the dark? I was trying to do one last night that starts when it is dark and without being able to see, I found it impossible to do the switching needed to build my train. Am I missing some sort of secret here? Thanks!

RE: Activities In The Dark

I found it relatively easy to do it in the dark. I have one activity that starts at 2:00am and I coupled up my train and off I went. You just have to look very carefully and look at your work orders. Use your views.

I use activity changer to alter the start time. That way I can have any lighting situation I prefer. The download should be available here at Train-Sim

RE: Activities In The Dark

As previously mentioned: darken the room and brighten your monitor. I also feel that when I'm trying to couple-up that I can see better if I use the rear train view looking forward, the tracks seem to be brighter for some reason than when looking too the rear, of course you need to be backing at a safe coupling speed incase of the surprise appearence of your consist. I have been driving a PO&N activity day and night continuously and it seems there are darker periods of the night (this might be my imagination) and I try to do less risky manuvers at this time and Snipers AI trains seem to have the swing-shift off so they are not a problem. I had this idea that maybe I could go into Activity Editor and change the activity from Fall to Summer and see if the game will give me less night time. I've been on vacation in "Roller Coaster Tycoon" lately or I would have had an answer to that question. I had originally changed some activities to Winter thinking it would help visually but I'm not so sure it actually works.

Either I missed something here, or we're missing the obvious. If you're switching, using a switcher just add lights that are activated on dims facing backwards. A couple of the SW900-1500 have this and a GP38 or two also. Just look at the engine file, copy that section to the one you want, increment the lights # by one and you're on to night switching.

RE: Activities In The Dark

* create a map of the yard you are working on before starting the activity* use F7 to pick up where the parked cars are located* use F6 to identify the sidings* in a reverse movement, use the 3 view and then drop it a bit with the down arrow. this creates an angle where it sometimes is easier to see the cars* if the activity starts in twilight, scan as much of the yard as you can and make some notesThe most important of this list is the use of F7. It is pretty accurate as to the location of parked cars. Approach at no more than 12 mph, then come to a full stop. Use the 6 view early; you get sixty feet of warning and you should be at 3-5 mph by then.My biggest problem at night is confirming the points on yard switches.--grumpy
