The other night I was running the newly installed BB with the v1 upgrades in place, on the Marias pass noon mixed activity. Found that the engine would on reaching the passing siding, slow right down to stall and then roll backward down the slope! No sign of wheel slip despite max boiler pressure. Sanders made no differnce. The faster I ran into the siding the further I got but eventually gravity would overcome inertia and down we come again. A second engine in the train made it possible to get to the top. Any reason why engine should stall and then run back?

Yeah! Its Bigboy by name, but not by nature! Its the same with the ESE, looks powerful, but lacking in serious grunt. Its only to be expected, they were built at a time long before real power was a neccessity. Don't expect them to do a modern job.David
