Just a quick pic to show you guys & gals what the Beta-2 release of DirectX 9 did for my frame rates. My system is an Athlon XP2200+ with 1GB of RAM and a GeForce2 Ti video card. Wonderful in-game with ALMOST no stutter. But, it does some horrid things to the opening screens & menus. I'll just be patient and wait for the final code release.....

That's good! I get 57 with the same type of scenery with the Radeon 9700 Pro. on a P4 2Ghz 512MB RDRAM system set at 1280X1024X16 colors with 6X FSAA and 8X Anisotropic Filtering (Limited due to skipping problem if set higher I mentioned in another thread with this card.) Here's a shot similar to yours, assuming your using the Cajon for your scenery. Oh and this is with Direct X 8.2. At what settings did you take your shot at? Whats your FPS at more dense scenery like sitting at Philidelphia on the Acela? I get 30 FPS at 1600X1200X16

RE: Direc tX 9 Beta-2

Thomas,This NEC Scene is my favourite FpS Benchmark Tester I used in a Fps Comparison Test Thread before, results from WIN XP users making me get it myself. This Scene is from my new WIN XP, Athlon XP2400+, 1 Gb DDR RAM, TI-4600, DX-8.1, 42 FpS.I don't think we shall see much improvement in MSTS using the latest Graphics Cards such as the RADEON 9700 with it's AGP 8x and DX-9 capability until Software has been re-written to take advantage of it all.SnapIt Image edited with IrfanView from: www.irfanview.comDirec tX 9 Beta-2 – image 115

RE: Direc tX 9 Beta-2

That Athlon looks like a really nice system! I assume your at 1024x768 in this shot. With this setting I can only manage 32FPS. That is with 6X FSAA though What are your other settings? like FSAA, anisotropic Filtering...?

Depends on the card, Thomas. My TI-4600 uses "Let the Programs use Antialiasing", Anisotropic at x8 and ".......\Train.exe" /anisotropic /fsaa Command Line switches. There are one or two other nVidia Settings which can be set using the Riva Tuner. RADEON Cards have similar ways to tweak them. Also, after changing Graphics Cards or their Drivers, let the MSTS Troubleshooter "Change the Video Driver" again. All MSTS Settings at "MAX" and all boxes "Ticked".P.S.: Yes, resolution is 1024 x 768, SIMS only installed and only necessary WIN Services in the Task Manager, NO INTERNET, VIRUS CHECKERS, PRINTERS, MULTI-MEDIA or anything else tolling the CPU !You can see it at: www.otto-wipfel.co.uk and click on "WIN XP Hints & Tips"

RE: Direc tX 9 Beta-2

The opening screen and menu page are showing up at about 1/2" smaller in size than normal, and about 1" off-screen to the left. (I don't have a screen grabber program to show it to you!) I have my settings at 600x480x32. If I try it at 800x600x32, main game screen itself starts to show up off-center. I could use some suggestions from you guys about what a better resolution would be for my setup here with this 19" monitor, I'm not sure where to start.....On the NEC, I'm getting 37-42, depending on where I am....

Wowee!,,,you have a 19" monitor and you run MSTS in 600x480??? Unless of course your graphic hardware is some built in,on board cr** and totally unable to move a couple of pixels on screen.Even the lowest end GF2 MX can do 1024x768 quite well.
For your size of monitor, you should be at 1280x1024 or at the very least, run MSTS at 1024x768.

RE: Direc tX 9 Beta-2

Scott,With a 19" monitor, if you are not using 1600 x 1200 or 1280 x 1024 then I think you are wasting your time.
I have a 17" LCD running at 1280 x 1024 and its GOOD.You other problem with the screen moving sideways can be solved after you select the resolution you want to use, go into the monitor setup and centre the image.Derek

RE: Direc tX 9 Beta-2

I like it much better at 1280x1024x32. I also discovered the DX9 I'm using is Beta-1. Beta-2 is downloading as I speak.... If I center the screen with the controls on my monitor, won't it off-center the desktop then as well when I exit the game?

Most likely your monitor saves different settings for different resolutions. So, if your desktop and the game are running at different resolutions, it's a good bet that whatever changes you make will "stick" only for that resolution. With most monitors that I have ever seen, you have to adjust the controls for each resolution that you use the first time you use it, because they always seem to be off-center.
