According to a press release posted in the news section at www.ms-train-simulator.de and subsequent confirmation by a couple of members from the Pro Train crew on the forum at www.tssf.de , Blue Sky Interactive, in cooperation with Austrian software design company eDesign, are going to present us with a high-quality commercial rendition of the famous Semmering route from Austria. The Semmeringbahn has been declared an item of cultural heritage by the United Nations. It was planned and built from 1848 to 1854 under the direction of Carl Ritter von Ghega as a part of the Vienna-Trieste mainline. With a peak altitude of 898 metres ASL, it was the world's highest rail line until 1860. It is interesting to keep in mind that while the two end locations Muerzzuschlag and Gloggnitz are separated by only 21 km cross-country, the actual route length turned out to be some 42 km, owing to the difficult terrain.
This Pro Train package, which will be released on three (!) CDs, will include not only the route and assorted rolling stock, but also a number of videos from real-world runs between Gloggnitz and Muerzzuschlag. Release is scheduled to be around December 5th, 2002 (about the same time as Pro Train 3 ), for an initial suggested price of € 25.99.
And on a more personal note - this is going to be a great winter for TS junkies! Dominik MannProud German railfan - Visit www.tssf.de www.bahn.de : Official DB web site

RE: Pro Train series Semmering route announced!

This does not sound like a Pro Train route, only 42km long??? The time frame is also somewhat of a concern for me, mid 1800's? Well if you say it is ProTrain, i'll believe you, but I probally won't rush out to buy it till I hear a few reviews. It's not a game, it's a way of life.

RE: Pro Train series Semmering route announced!

Thanks for info Dominik. I saw this on Kami's site but I hardly understand a word in German. The route will be great, the rolling stock can be found on Kami's site: http://members.telering.at/kami/trainsim.html; some early pictures of the route can be found on site: www.edesign.at; Kami Kiafar and Peter Moser are very skilfull designers theire freeware locos and cars are great. I hope that route will be over 42 km.
Regards

RE: Pro Train series Semmering route announced!

@ SVTS:The way I understood the comments from the Pro Train people at the TSSF forum, I believe Blue Sky Interactive will be taking a double approach. On one hand, they'll continue to develop route add-ons in the fashion of PT1 and 2. However, they will also host the eDesign.at team, who will be developing Austrian route add-ons, much in the style of the Pro Train packages we know. That decision had been made only recently when eDesign presented their work in progress to BSI, and thus it seems they were so convinced that they offered them a contract shortly after that.
The Semmering route will be represented as it is today, meaning that modern rolling stock will be included. Kamran (aka Kami) Kiafar, who is responsible for rolling stock design, said that he had reworked his already excellent freeware engines, and detailed them even further. Scenery objects, such as catenary masts, have been reworked, too.
As for the length of the route, if I may take the headline on Kami's website for granted, it will extend from Muerzzuschlag all the way to Wiener Neustadt, which would be at least double the 42 km of the actual Semmering peak section.Dominik MannProud German railfan - Visit www.tssf.de www.bahn.de : Official DB web site

RE: Pro Train series Semmering route announced!

That is good enough for starters, Dominik !The best part of this Main Line into Italy is the mountainous region in the "Semmering" with it's many Viaducts and Tunnels, included in this First Version.

Only pity is there's not the entire Vienna-Trieste line available! I'd love Pontebbana line too!

RE: Pro Train series Semmering route announced!

@ Umberto:You know, I'd like to see one of those Italian lines which were once electrified with three-phase AC (which required double overhead wires). However, while such catenaries are apparently being worked on, there has yet to be a breakthrough. One approach which is followed by at least two designers (IIRC) would be a set of catenaries with wires modelled as parts of the masts, which would, basically, make it possible to create mast objects with double wires attached. This, of course, would require the "functional" wire height in the route editor to several thousand metres, so that the default overhead wires would not interfere with the dummy wires.Dominik MannProud German railfan - Visit www.tssf.de www.bahn.de : Official DB web site
