Please consider this your monthly nag to back up your Train Sim folder. I admit it... I let a month go by, and sure enough, up popped the devil."The disk drive contains no recognizeable file system." Now there's a message to warm your heart. What about my 9 gigs of Train Sim files? What do you mean there's no file system?Well, it's taken me two days to put things back together. I had to erase the drive, re-partition it, re-format it, and then put my month-old backup on it. So tonight I'm being a bandwidth hog, re-downloading all that wonderful stuff I had collected over the last month.Don't let this happen to you. If it's been a while, do a backup. I wish I had.
Backup... Backup... BACKUP! The mantra of the route developer. In the very early stages of playing with the RE it became obvious that backing up was a very necessary thing to do. And if the gremlins in the RE aren't reason enough, there's always things like the above that will sneak up and chomp down on your fanny. I do a nightly tape backup of the machine with MSTS on it, and copy the folder containing the route I'm playing with to the server in addition to the backup. And just to confirm my paranoia, anytime I make any major additions to the route, I burn the route off to a CD right then and there. I hope you can recover and be back where you were without much hassle!
