This is driving me nuts...I start up the Whitefish Switching activity. I couple onto the
first batch of cars, check train brake, check hand brakes and ease
it into forward. The engines strain but don't move, I up the power
to 50% and still no movement, and it's only 11 cars. At 75% I can
creep along. Other cars behave the same way. What incredibly obvious detail am I missing? Why won't the cars move?ML

OK, so you checked the train brake and the hand brake. Did you also release the 'independent' engine brake? Normally, when you start an activity the engine has been parked with the independent brake set.

RE: Can't move in Whitefish switching activity

I haven't looked at the Whitefish switching activity, but if you used the front coupler prior to the update1 patch that's exactly what you got, full power to move a half dozen cars with the front coupler because the "holding brakes" (don't look at me, KUJU built that into loose consists) do not release when the front coupler engages. The patch fixed that, but the patch itself has some quirks, so back up the following folders before installing:\Trains\Trainset\GP38
\Trains\Trainset\Dash9
\Trains\Trainset\380
and the following root files in \Train Simulator:App.fbk
default.fbk
di_keys.dll
drivers.db
launcher.exe
MProfile.exe
train.exeThe one that specifically fixes the front coupler bug is train.exe, but the fix can be buggy itself, altho I've had pretty good luck with it.
Patches are available from:http://microsoftgamesinsider.com/TrainSimulator/InsideTrainSimulator/TrainSim_v1.2ContentUpdate.htmThe one you want is train update 1.1, Trainupdate.exe . The SD40-2_content_update.exe for 1.2 is nice too, but the cement cars in that are buggy. Nice SD40-2 model tho.
