When i load PO&N6 after i installed it, it comes up halfway loading then it stops and comes with an error saying USA1clean Track fail or somthing like that so any help would be helpful thanks
Hmm. Well, the reason this is being hosted on a different website instead of uploaded to the train-sim.com file library is because it's a beta, which means a test version, not ready for prime time. That's why there's no automatic install or foolproof instructions, the assumption is anyone downloaded a beta of anything would know how to figure out what goes where and why.The path stored in the zipfile is \Portogden6 for the main folder, so that needs to be extracted, copied, or moved to \Train Simulator\Routes, and check that the whole path is correct;\Train Simulator\Routes\Portogden6, and the folders you see in that one should be \1Maps&Docs&Hacks, \Activities, \Envfiles, and so forth. If you have something like \Train Simulator\Routes\Portogden6\Portogden6\Activities it's no good.Next you need to find the installme.bat in the \Portogden6 folder, and the path should read;C:\WhereverYouHaveIt\Train Simulator\Routes\Portogden6\installme.batIf you find the installme.bat somewhere else or there's an extra subfolder in between it won't work. For Win XP the most reliable way to get a DOS batch file to work is to select installme.bat, RIGHT click the mouse, and choose "open" from the popup menu that appears. You should get a DOS window or screen with scrolling lines of copy & xcopy commands for two or three minutes, and don't close the DOS window until it says "finished".One other thing, we route developers have gotten rather careless about this since we assume everyone knows it by now, the overwhelming majority of freeware routes require all six of the MSTS default routes (Europe1&2, Japan1&2, USA1&2) to be installed with the original folder names in the \Train Simulator\Routes folder, and the \Train Simulator\Template folder also in the default location with all it's default files.
This is how it is Train simulator/route/portogden6/Acts and so forth wit install.bat in that folder i've ran it three times and still get that USAclean track error
Should be "\Train simulator\ROUTES\portogden6\" not "Train simulator/ROUTE/portogden6/", there's supposed to be an S on the end of that folder. Computers are really picky about spelign, they can't figure out what you mean so there's no such thing as "close enough"."USAclean track" don't ring any bells either, it might say "missing \Textures\acleantrack1.ace" or something similar. The installme.bat looks for files from: ..\europe2\Textures\Acleantrack1.ace, doesn't copy any track textures from USA1 or USA2.Only two possibilities I can think of;1. You got a corrupted or partial zip file (should be about 7,244KB) in the download, try downloading again, or, 2. Something wrong with your MSTS installation. Quick & dirty way to check that, download the previous version, PO&Nver5.zip from the file library here at train-sim (it's only half the size of the 6 beta, 3.5 megs), and see if the install for that works. If it does, then your trainsim folder has all the right stuff in all the right places. Since the V5 final is failsafe goofproof automatic point&click and has worked reliably since February, if that one don't work for you you'll probably need to reinstall MSTS.
Well, yes, if you could duplicate exactly what the batch file is supposed to do. First thing is you need the full accurate missing filename from the error message, for example if it says it's not finding "\Textures\Amaintrack1.ace", you won't find a file with that name anywhere because it doesn't exist until the batch file creates it.call copy ..\europe2\Textures\Acleantrack1.ace .\Textures\amaintrack1.ace What that line does is copy the Europe2 Acleantrack1.ace to the \Portogden6 textures folder, then renames it to Amaintrack1.ace, which several shape files will be looking for. There are a whole bunch of other lines that do similar things, so once you get past the first error by creating or copying the file it's looking for, I practically guarantee there will be others. So the big question is why the hell is the batch file not working? An experienced computer hacker could bypass the batch file by manually copying and renaming files, but it would be rather tedious. Some people with Win2000 or XP have reported that batch files don't work by double clicking on them, they get a DOS window that flashes on the screen for a split second and it closes. If that's what you're getting, you need to RIGHT click on it instead, and select "open" from the popup window to get it to run correctly. You should also hit the "Pause/Break" key to check that you're actually getting files copied, and not a whole string of "file not found, 0 files copied" messages. Hit the "Enter" key to restart the copying.Question 1, did you download it again and you're still getting the same thing? Question 2, are you certain the path in the explorer address bar when you select the installme.bat reads "\Train Simulator\Routes\Portogden6\installme.bat", with no extra folders in between?
The only way I can see this error would occur is if the route is stuffed by any method other than the installme.bat file as no other method will make the amaintrack files or indeed any of the other files that are renamed by the installme.bat file. This will certainly happen if the route is installed, against the recommendation, using Route Control.Bill
I have the registered version of Route Control, but don't have it installed at the moment (got an 80 gig HD). The drag&drop installation wouldn't work, but since the Route Control's megaroute folder is in the correct path, running the installme.bat from that folder after dragging & dropping should work and do all the stuff it's supposed to do. The only thing I can see that would cause it to fail would be if the folder wasn't directly in the \Routes folder, since the batch files look for the "..\" or "..\..\", which is computerese for "up one folder" and "up two folders". When Route Riter came out, Mike didn't use the same conditional error checking routine I used for EZstuff to check for the presence of train.exe two folders up. I didn't think it mattered, since nobody was having problems with putting the folder in the wrong place, and if you do run it from C:\Windows\Temp\Portogden6, for example, it doesn't really do any harm, just runs thru a zillion "file not found, 0 files copied", and does nothing. The IFEXIST switch in EZstuff does at least let the - how do I put this politely? - "computer challenged individuals" know that they are trying to run it from the wrong place, so maybe I oughtta add it to the installme.bat anyway, kinda like a "dummy alarm". You never know with some of these things tho, I was surprised that some people with Windows XP were reporting that glitch with all the EZstuff variants where it would flash the DOS window and stop, and right clicking to run it from the menu instead worked. The important things are; 1. You got the whole zipfile, 7,244kb on a FAT-32 disk. 2. The path is correct, go up two folders from installme.bat, if the file "train.exe" isn't there, the folder is in the wrong place. 3. Your MSTS install is correct, with the routes being copied from where they're supposed to be.This guy says PO&N5 worked fine, so #3 isn't his problem, has to be 1 or 2.
But there is also the alternative way of using Route Control for loading a route. Unzip the file, pack in Route Control and then let it throw everything into the route including all the files it doesn't need. Some people have been known to do this (and it usually works) but of course it screws the route up where there is a custom files folder and anything else in the batch file that renames files etc.But then, of course, you did recommend that RC wasn't used for the route Bill
Jim, I didn't realise how easy it is in WIN XP at 1024x768 Res., using the standard Fonts in the EXPLORER, to accidentally drop a PASTE into the wrong Folder, Text lines being squashed together closely.I got my ICONS and EXPLORER Text enlarged in Diplay/Appearance/EXTRA LARGE Font Size/Advanced/ choose your Style, Font Size and BOLD until you are happy reading all comfortably without having to screw your eyes up ! I know you said "let the UNZIP create the Folders for you" ! But I think it is a better idea to UNZIP all to Temporary Folders first, read all the Instructions, Create the new Folders Manually and then DRAG & DROP from the Temp. Folders ?I use IF NOT EXIST .... GOTO TO ERROR in my Batch Files, telling the User what is wrong.I got it wrong once, the InstallMe.Bat flashing ON and Off so quick I did not see the reason for it until I put a PAUSE into it before it's end !
